COLUMBA CATHOLIC CHURCH

April 3, 2016
Divine Mercy Sunday

Year of Mercy
The Corporal Works of Mercy are found in the
teachings of Jesus and give us a model for how we should
treat all others, as if they were Christ in disguise. They
"are charitable actions by which we help our neighbors in
their bodily needs" (U.S. Catholic Catechism for Adults).
They respond to the basic needs of humanity as we
journey together through this life.

SAN DIEGO

Goodbye
We are very sad to announce that Fr. Ed
Corcoran will be leaving San Diego in April and
returning to Chicago. His last Sunday Mass at St.
Columba will be at 7:30 a.m. on April 3.
Everyone is invited to a farewell reception in the
Hall after the 7:30 Mass on April 3.

Divine Mercy Sunday

Bury the Dead

Funerals give us the opportunity to grieve and show
others support during difficult times. Through our
prayers and actions during these times we show our
respect for life, which is always a gift from God, and
comfort to those who mourn.
Send a card to someone who has recently lost a loved
one. Make your own card and use some of the prayers
found on the USCCB web site:
http://www.usccb.org/prayer-and-worship/
bereavement-and-funerals/prayers-for-death-anddying.cfm
Visit the cemetery and pray for those you have lost.
Spend time planning your own funeral Mass, read
through the Order of Christian Funerals and find our
hope in the Resurrection.

The Sunday after Easter is universally observed

throughout the Church as Divine Mercy Sunday. St.
Pope John Paul II established the Feast of Divine
Mercy Sunday during the canonization of St. Faustina
in the Jubilee Year 2000. Our Lords great promise:
The soul that will go to Confession and then receive
Holy Communion shall obtain the complete
forgiveness of sins and punishment. We want to
encourage everyone to take
advantage of this incredible
promise on this Great Feast of
Mercy.
Everyone is invited to attend the
Divine Mercy Sunday Devotion with
Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament
this Sunday, April 3rd from 2:30
3:30 p.m. in the Church. A cake
reception will follow in the Hall.
