Treatment Summary

• Dusted 4-flap wrapper.


• Removed surface dirt off face and edge of glass with 5% ethanol solution.
• Created spacers to minimize glass movement in box.

Treatment Summary

• The books were surface cleaned and then removed from their post binding.
• Tape was removed using mechanical & aqueous methods.
• Inks were tested for solubility & water soluble inks were treated with ionic fixative.
• Objects were pretreated with ethanol and then washed in calcium enriched water for 5-7 baths.
• Objects were then placed in a calcium-phytate bath, followed by one calcium bicarbonate bath.
• Objects were humidified, pressed, and then mended using Japanese paper and wheat starch paste.
• The pages were then collated and returned to their binding.
• Covers were dry cleaned and corners mended with toned Japanese paper. Deed Book Proposal

Treatment Summary

• Objects were disbound, then surface cleaned using grated and solid vinyl eraser.
• Inks were tested for solubility & non-water soluble materials were removed.
• Objects were pretreated with ethanol and then washed in calcium enriched water for 5-7 baths.
• After drying, objects were again treated with ethanol and placed in a calcium-phytate bath,
followed by two calcium bicarbonate baths.
• Objects were mended using Japanese paper and wheat starch paste, then humidified and pressed.
• Objects were rebound with new thread, and if needed new covers and end sheets were added.
