Q-1 How many sampling points are there in refueller? Why?
Ans There are three sampling points in refueller one is at bottom, one is at filter &
last one is at
nozzle. Some times or may be during VVIP fueling flight engineer
can ask for all the sampling for Quality Check purpose.
Q-2 Why wheel chocks are made of wood not of metal?
Ans Metal chokes may slide during rainy season and it may generate spark also. To
avoid that wood chokes are generally used.
Q-3 Why manholes are provided at opposite ends of tank?
Ans Manholes provided at opposite ends of tank so that it will provide sufficient air
circulation and proper sunlight during M & I process.
Q-4 Why compartments are given in Tank truck?
Ans compartments allow easy handling and less splashing.
Q-5 Why capsule test is done for sample drawn from TT?
Ans Capsule test is to detect the presence of water in sample. It comprises
potassium permangenete which changes its colour on reaction with water.
Q-6 Why internal bracing are not permitted in horizontal tank?
Ans We cannot apply proper epicoating due to space constraints of internal bracing.
Q-7 Why datum plate is provided in storage tank?
Ans It is a plate like structure that provides support to dip rod and gives accurate
level.
Q-8 Why expansion relief valve is used in storage tank?
Ans If there is any expansion in the product due to temperature rise during dormant
period, this line provides path to the product to flow back to tank thus releasing
pressure in the tank.
Q-9 Why bottom emergency valve is provided in TT?
Ans In case of emergency or any leakage, this valve is used to stop the flow of
product from tank truck.
Q-10 Why Nalco additives are used?

Ans If lubricity index increases beyond 0.65 then Nalco additive is added in ATF

Q-11 Why differential pressure gauge is provided in filter?

Ans PD gauge is provided to measure the PD between inlet and outlet of filter and if
PD is more than 15 PSI than as per the guidelines officer has to inspect the filter and
remove it if not repairable.
Q-12 Why churning is done before refueling?
Ans Churning is done before refueling so that all the equipment can be checked and
we can ensure that everything is working perfectly and there is no leakage or
failure. Apart from that it will also make ATF a homogeneous product so that
avoiding any layer due to density difference.
Q-13 Why anti-collision light is put at front top part of refueller?
Ans As per the DGCA guidelines every refueller must be equipped with anti-collision
lamp so that collision is avoided during refueller is in airport and moving. DGCA can
charge heavily if this norm/rule is violated.
Q-14 Why product is taken out from each chamber of TT before taking a
Dip of each?
Ans Quantity of each compartment of TT also includes the product present in
pipeline from which it is unloaded. So if this pipeline is not filled with ATF and filled
with air only that it will show inaccurate dip so the quantity of product. To avoid this
we take out some product from each compartment and that same product is poured
in compartment again. After completing all this process only we can take accurate
Dip.
Q-15 Why numbers of coalescer are more than separator in Filter i.e 5
coalescer 4 separator ?
Ans Always inflow in filter is more than outflow because water part will be
coalesced in coalesce and get separated in separator so quantity of outflow is lesser
than inflow. That is why nos of coalescer are more than separator in Filter.
Q-16 Why density is important characteristic in ATF?
Ans Pilot always calculate the amount of ATF needed for plane in term of Kgs. And it
will be calculated by considering load factors. And IOCL deals in term of Liters for
calculation and further payment. So to convert Kgs to Liter we need to have density
of ATF.
Q-17 Why venturi is provided in refueling circuit?

Ans Venturi system is used for simulating nozzle pressure. Venturi is provided
before hose reel for nozzle pressure simulation as it is not possible to run pressure
sensing line from nozzle to the panel.

Q-18 Why air eliminator is provided in filter?

Ans This equipment is fitted on highest point of filter vessel for easy air removal of
the system and prevents entry of air into the flow meter. Generally no routine
maintenance work is needed for air eliminators. However, once in year, during filter
inspection, air eliminator assembly shall be overhauled and fitted back.
Q-19 What are the cost included in calculation of ATF pricing?
Ans
Ex Storage Point Price(ESPP)
NRF (Notional Railway Freight)
Road Freight
Min Stock Level (MSL)
AFS Cost
Pipeline Cost/ Railway
Surcharge
Excise tax
Depot
Q-20 Why Surge suppressors
dispensers are provided?

are

provided

on

refuellers/hydrant

Ans Surge suppressors are provided on refuellers/hydrant dispensers where higher

rate of delivery is involved. A sudden closure of the valve anywhere in the system
shall cause surge pressures upstream of it. Surge suppressors will absorb this
sudden increase in pressure and avoid damage to the system.
