ABSTRACT

Tone of voice has many types like monotonous voice

and upbeat voice. This voices may affect the memory recall of
a person based on tone. Every person has its own way of how
they recall memory. This study was designed to investigate
the relationship of tone of voice; monotonous tone of voice
and upbeat tone voice to a persons recall memory. To obtain
the results participants were placed in a room, there are 40
participants involve. The researcher used purposive sampling
technique. The experimental design that was used was within
subject. The researchers chose this method and design for a
reason that it is the most appropriate for the study.
The participants are Grade 5 students from Integrated
School with a total of 40 participants. The respondents
listened to the recorded voice of monotonous and upbeat tone

of voice. Then the researcher instruct the students to list down

the

images they recall on the recorded voice. Based on the result

there is significant difference between monotonous tone of
voice and upbeat tone of voice to their recall memory.

INTRODUCTION
When we speak, our listeners get an impression of
how we feel from our tone of voice. We can sound pleasant
and friendly, angry and upset, or irritated and frustrated. It is
not enough to say the right words but the most important on
how can we deliver it without offending others; we must
cautious on the tone that we will used, so that we convey our
message. Our tone of voice is the way in which we write and
speak, what we say and how we say it. Like a person, what
we say is dictated by our principles, experiences and
aspirations, how we say it is informed by our personality. But
can be tone of voice evaluate test subject ability to remember

everyday object? In increasing tones express a dose of safety

while decreasing inflections show insecurity, pauses between
words and phrases both transmit clues about the speakers
intention or attitudes and voice volume show speakers
authority, its power of persuasion and the ability to be listened
to.
Most people talk about memory as if it were a thing
they have like bad eyes or a good head of hair .But your
memory doesnt exist in the way a part of your body. Exist
its not a thing you can touch .The study of Human
Memory has been a subject of Science and Philosophy for
thousands of years and has become one of the major topics of
interest within cognitive psychology (Kendra, 2014)

METHODOLOGY

To obtain the results

participants were placed in a

room. There are 39 participants from Grade 5 students of

Integrated School of Batangas State University. The

researchers used purposive sampling technique. The said
group listened to a recorded monotonous and upbeat tone of
voice of objects images. The aim was to evaluate whether
tone of voice can influence test subject ability to remember a
list of everyday object. Data that will be gathered from this
experiment were then analyzed and interpret.
Research Design
The researchers used within the subject design for this
experiment. Researchers chose this method and design for a
reason because this is the most appropriate for this study
Participants and Sampling Technique
The participants are the Grade 5 students of Integrated
School from Batangas State University with the total of 40
participants who listened to a recorded voice.

to list all the images that they remember for 15-20 minutes.
Apparatus and Materials
The material that the researcher used were speaker,
laptop for the recorded audio, projector and a sheet of paper.

Procedure
The experiment has one (1) that consist 40 participants
from Grade 5 students of Integrated School who will place in
a classroom. The researcher will show 60 different images of
objects that is divided into two: 30 images of the object are
recorded in monotonous voice and 30 for upbeat voice. The
researchers will show or project images of the objects while
the participants are listening to the recorded voice saying
what the object is. After the participants saw and hear the
images of the object, the researcher will ask the participants

Then base on the result the researcher will analyze.

Since the p-value of 0.97 is higher than 0.05 level of
significance, then the computed chi-square value of 12.03 is
found to be significant, this could also mean that the Grade 5
students recall memory based on tone of voice was
significantly differ. This could also indicate that the tone of
voice affect the recall memory of the experimental group.

Discussion

The experiment conducted by the researchers designed

to test whether the tone of voice affects the recall memory of
a person. The researchers wanted to know if the listeners will
be recall memory to upbeat and monotonous tone of voice.
Based on the result, tone of voice has a significant effect on
the recall memory of a person. This means that the
respondents can easily recall to the upbeat tone of voice.

Sandra Lomas (2013) examined the effects of expression

(expressive tone and monotone) and story content (emotional
and non-emotional) on recall memory were compared.
Results from the present study indicate that pairing an
expressive voice with an emotional story have significant
difference in monotone voice with non-emotional story.
Previous

studies

have

used

multiple

speakers,

emotional and neutral content, and one of four conditioned

and a variety of memory tasks to see if there was an effect on

memory.

Based on the result of the present experimental study,

future researcher can be considered to improve and make
progress to the matters related:
1. Future researchers may add or use different types of
tone of voice.
2. Future researchers may use greater number of
respondents and may include different treatments.
3. For replication of study, the proper and clear
explanation of the study.

CONCLUSION
Based on the results, the researchers found out that the
tone of voice could affect the recall memory of a person. The
researchers concluded that they can recall memory more on
upbeat tone of voice,
