BELIEVE IN THE RESURRECTION!

Easter Sunday was our Lords great day of triumph. On Good Friday, it appeared that His
earthly mission had ended in failure. Our Lords enemies had determined to put Him to death
because they considered Him a blasphemer, one who claimed to be God. They also resented Him
as a challenge to their selfish interests and they were no doubt jealous because of the multitudes
that followed Him. Little did they realize that He could have come down from the cross. It was
not the nails of the Roman soldiers that held Him there, but love--love for your soul and mine,
love for every poor sinner.
We would have to say that the Resurrection of Jesus was a hidden event. Jesus didnt rise from
the grave to baffle His opponents, to make a victory statement, or to prove to those who loved
Him and followed Him that Gods Divine Love is stronger than death. You recall that He had
told the women and men who committed themselves to Him that His mission had been fulfilled.
To the Apostles, He gave the sacred task to call all people into the new life with Him. To expand
on this, St. Cyril of Jerusalem said: The root of all good works is the hope of the resurrection,
for the expectations of the reward moves the soul to good works. St. Thomas got to the essence
of the resurrection in these words: For the human soul is immortal, and continues after its
separation from the body. Yet, union with the body is essential to it, for by its very nature, the soul
is form of body. Without the body, it is in an unnatural condition; and what is unnatural cannot
go on forever. Therefore, the soul, which is perpetual, is not forever apart from the body, but will
be reunited to it. The souls immortality seems to demand the eventual resurrection of the body.
And Fr. John Reinkemeyer, who gave me those preceding quotes, added, Not to forget, if we get
our body back on resurrection day, the body will be rewarded with the soul, if our resurrection is
glorious. The body and soul worked together in doing Gods will on earth to glorify Him, so the
two must be rewarded together. The opposite, which, God forbid should happen, also holds true.
St. Paul assured the Corinthians of the final resurrection
with these words: In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye,
at the last trumpet, the corruptible body must put on
incorruption and the mortal body must put on
immortality. This is the hope of every faithful Christian.
This hope inspired Job, during his terrible trials many
centuries before the time of Jesus, when he cried out, I
know that my Redeemer liveth and on the last day, I shall
rise again out of the earth, clothed again with my skin and
in my flesh, and I shall see my God! If we accept Gods
Will and place full trust in Him, a glorious resurrection with
Him will one day be ours. Keep your eye on The Prize
and have a happy Easter!
