FACTORY STREET RECONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Mechanic Street Closure March 28th March 30th
Issued March 25, 2016
The Citys contractor, CCI Companies, is advancing the Factory Street Reconstruction Project on
multiple fronts. They are currently tying in the remaining portions of large diameter watermains on
Mill Street and Huntington Street, bypass pumping and lining a 24 sanitary sewer along Factory
Street, and installing traffic signal foundations at various intersections.
Watermain Work:
Once the final sections of the watermain are installed, CCI will begin tying over water services from
the old watermain, to the new one. They will notify residents of the planned service work dates, which
will require a short term shutdown, and coordinate with businesses to minimize disruptions as much as
possible.
Water service work on Mechanic Street is scheduled for March 28th and weather dependent, is
expected to last 2-3 days. Beginning March 28th, MECHANIC STREET WILL BE CLOSED to
THRU TRAFFIC, between Emerson St. and Factory St, during construction hours, 6:00 am to
6:00 pm.
Sanitary Sewer Lining:
CCIs subcontractor, Green Mountain Pipe, has begun bypass pumping operations and lining of the
24 sanitary sewer along Factory St. Residents will receive advance notification of when work will
affect their property for the day. The liner will temporarily block the sanitary sewer lateral, so
property owners will have to minimize all flow to the sewer lateral during that time. This work mainly
affects properties on the northside of Factory St. only.
National Grid:
National Grids Electric subcontractor, Syracuse Utilities, will finish installing a new underground
electric duct bank along Mill Street, near Newell Street, the first week of April. At the end of April,
National Grid is sending underground electric crews to switch service over to the new duct bank,
which is anticipated to last into July. Once this work is complete, the Citys remaining utility work can
advance on Mill St.
National Grids Gas subcontractor, Dekatherm, will resume installation of a new gas main along the
south side of Factory St., between Polk St. and Huntington St., beginning April 4th.
We will continue to provide press releases and notices to the public as construction progresses and
future traffic control measures are implemented. For further information or questions please contact
the Engineering Department at 315-785-7740, or visit the Citys website at www.watertown-ny.gov
