CHALLENGES DURING INDUSTRIAL TRAINING

On a personal level I will say I didnt face much challenges during the cause of the industrial
training, because I looked at every challenge as a means of learning. But some of the
challenges I faced were:
5.0.1

Transportation

The main challenge I faced was meeting up with work as early as possible. Because it would
take like 30 minutes from my house to ITVESSEL LIMITED and I have to reach there before
8:30 am. Based on the distance differences, I always wakeup earlier than I always do and try
and avoid traffic in my vicinity just to avoid late coming to work.
5.0.2

Work load

It took about a week before I was given anything serious to do in the office; I was being
given special newcomer treatment, which was really not needed. But with time that I got
known and conversant with staff and environment of the company, the workload and stress
became twice as much as I had expected.
Apart from these, I was able to manage very well in all other tasks given to me.

CONCLUSION

The extent of exposure in the course of the training has given me understanding about
computer science. The experiences i gained during my 6 months training cant be compared to
my normal school activities. I hereby advise Students to take advantage of the programme and
actually focus more on the experience they will gain from the training than its financial
benefits.
I had several experiences during the deployment exercise as I learnt how to interact with
people outside my field and even how to represent a firm I work for. I also had various
opportunities to know various problems and challenges a deployment officer can face and the
right solution(s) for such problems. I made possible communications to the office as expected
based on the clients request and sometimes to ascertain the problems faced by the user are
effectively resolved. Another important thing was that I recorded errors pointed out by the
client and suggestions too. I was also exposed to various challenges a non-computer literate
user is likely to have when using softwares.
While I was in software development unit, I got to know various ways of building a web page
using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP. I built my graphics skills using Adobe Photoshop
CS5 and also using Dreamweaver to write my source codes. In PHP, I learnt how to build
dynamic web pages using PHP as server side scripting language. I learnt how to create
interfaces and web templates with my graphics skills. I also learnt how to create a user
request or information form with HTML and CSS and how to validate it to prevent unwanted
response, more wrong details and proceeded on how to process it on same page and on
different pages.
Furthermore, I learnt how to create a database and how to make connection to it, how to
create tables on the database, how to insert into a database and how to retrieve data from the
database in a formatted way.
And finally, I learnt several things in web analysis where I got to know how to make my
work much easier by analyzing how I want it to be, how many main pages and subpages, how
the design will look like etc. On several occasions I had to develop a web analysis for
completed websites to perfect this skill using the opportunity to surf round the web to see
how dynamic websites look like. My stay in the programming department made me gain
some knowledge about algorithm, flowchart and pictorial representation of web analysis for
websites.

RECOMMENDATIONS

In this section, we shall be looking at some things that are generally needed to be done by
ITVESSEL LIMITED but they are yet to be implemented. And also some that they have done
and should keep on going the way they were before.
Firstly, the company administrative should try as much as possible to provide an internet
driven environment for staff, IT students and trainees.
The company should also take note about the lack of constant power supply based on the fact
that the generator is too old and bad with less power to carry all the systems being charged.
So a new and stronger power generator should be bought for the good of the company.
I also strongly recommend that some token should be given to IT students to empower and
motivate them for their work and transportation to offices for them not to have room for any
complains during their stay.
And finally the training techniques for IT student should be drastically improved so as to
empower them with unlimited knowledge and access to senior staff unlimitedly. This medium
would as well benefit the company in producing the new generation programmers annually
and they would be proud to be the source of such knowledge base.
