This retreat is especially for Janome & Elna Embroidery Machine Owners! This retreat is a consumer development show, open to quilters,
sewers, embroiderers and those who want to become educators. The sessions feature talented educators, software designers and authors who
are well-known in the sewing industry. These instructors will be sharing techniques and personal tips while participants work on projects
designed to help them use their machines to their fullest potential.

Janome & Elna will be attending this years 10th anniversary of Ray’s Sewing Retreat. Janome executives heard about the
fun and excitement the customers have when they attended Ray’s Sew Retreat, which convinced them to join us in the fun this
year. Ray’s is known for their spectacular sewing retreat throughout the country; we have people coming from : Chicago,
New York, New Orleans, Canada, Australia . . . and more.

BOBBI BULLARD

Award winning Bobbi Bullard is known for her wearable art that’s really wearable! She has developed
unique methods for individualizing garments with a variety of embellishment techniques and new ways of
using machine embroidery. She has been entertaining sewing enthusiasts for years, teaching around the
country, inspiring people wherever she goes. She is a contributing editor for Embroidery Journal and
Designs in Machine Embroidery and has written for Quiltmaker, Threads, Fitting Tips and Total
Embellishment Newsletter and contributes to ASG’s Notions.

MARY JO CABEL

Mary Jo has developed and successfully taught serger sewing classes for the past twenty-one years. In her
hands on classes, she has worked with all makes and models of sergers. She has put together a series of
serger instructional DVDs to share her knowledge with home sewers everywhere. Her step-by-step
instructions can be followed by the novice sewer and/or the accomplished seamstress. Great close ups in
all of her DVDs make for private lessons in your own home!

GAY GERLACK

Owner of Sewabration. She has a line of patterns and booklets, and is available to teach at educational
seminars. She is a member of the American Sewing Guild and the Sewing Educators Alliance. Gay has
taught for the Original Creative Festivals, International Quilt Festival, the Sewing and Stitchery Expo, the
International Embroidery Conference, the Creative Embroidery Conference, the Machine Enthusiasts
Embroidery Conference, the Janome Sew Easy Retreat, the Sparkle Cruise, the Sew, Quilt and Embroidery
Festivals, the Valley Stitcher’s Guild, and at a variety of sewing centers.
Gay’s designs have been featured in Threads Magazine, Sew Stylish Magazine, Designs in Machine
Embroidery, and The Embroidery Journal. She has also written articles for Pattern Review. The classes and
projects are part of a simplified sewing series designed to make sewing fast, fun and creative….a
Sewabration!

VALORA HAMMOND

Valora is an educator for Janome America. Her love of sewing began as a child and along the way, she’s
worked in a fabric store and made costumes for state shows. She has been doing custom sewing since she
was in high school, expanding to creating garments for contests, stage and special occasions. She
graduated from Colorado State University with a major in secondary teaching and a minor in apparel
production. She loves to teach Janome customers all the things their machines can do for them.

CINDY LOSEKAMP

Is a fun and enlightening teacher known for her incredible amount of samples and ingenious way of
creating. She has written numerous books and patterns and created many beautiful embroidery design
CD's. Cindy has been creating her entire life. She started learning at her Grandmother’s knee and then
continued at singer sewing classes and in 4-H. Cindy also is known for her ultra creative ideas and
methods for using embroidery machines and the decorative stitches that most people never use. Cindy has
been a guest on many of the popular TV shows and she has traveled extensively. Her love of sewing,
crocheting, embroidering and painting is the driving force behind her company, Sew Artfully Yours.
You will enjoy learning from this exciting and empowering sewing personality

Although a hairdresser by profession, Carol has always loved to sew. Having been self-taught, she perfected her
skills by making clothing for her and her family including men’s suits, heirloom dresses, formals and wedding
gowns. In 1990, she began designing and marketing wearable art vest patterns and teaching classes on the
appliqué cut-work construction. In 1997 she won first prize in the Sulky Challenge and had projects featured in
two Sulky concepts books. In 1996 Shirley Adams featured Carol’s Cherokee Nations vest on her program.
Serger Art by Diane Bossom, published in 1997, features two of her Peek-a-Boo Pleats garments. She was
credited in the January 2002 ―Threads Magazine‖ for her machine embroidery lace technique. She has numerous
projects featured in ―Janome Digest‖, taught at the Janome Institute three times and started as an educational
coordinator in 2004.
She truly loves sharing her sewing enthusiasm and continues to master new skills that she teaches others such as
quilting, lace making, and machine crochet.

JACKI MCNEIL

Jacki has been sewing for 16 years. She loves quilting, home decorator projects, wearable art and sewing for her
grandchildren. She is active with the American Sewing Guild, Placerville Gold Country Chapter. Jacki’s goal for
her students is that they leave each class with a sense of joy knowing that they have successfully completed their
projects.

Margaret is the first Internationally-Accredited Jenny Haskins Tutor, being personally invited to make the trip
around the world to Australia, in order to receive private, one-on-one training from the world-renowned Jenny

being showcased in other illustrious magazines as well as on television.
You will encounter a magical experience when you take a class with Margaret. She cares deeply about her
students and clients, and she is passionate about her work. Her skills and talents are among the best in the
industry, and she continuously receives exceptional reviews from her students. With experience teaching all over

3Rs – REDUCE, RE-USE, RECYCLE BOBBI BULLARD


Transform a denim jacket into a work of art! Embroider designs on a separate piece of
fabric, then insert it into the jacket using a variety of embellishments to create your
personal work of art. The pictured sample is only an idea, each participant’s finished
work will be unique.
Extra supplies: denim jacket (possibly from a thrift store)

DIGITIZER MB-101 - COVER UP FOR MARDI GRAS VALORA HAMMOND

Make a mask all in the hoop so bring your imagination and some metallic thread, feathers, beads,
buttons, etc. to embellish your mask. You will open the design and add ―stuff‖ to it. We will use
software designs to edit by tearing them apart, resizing or reshaping them. Create in the morning
– stitch and decorate in the afternoon.
Class requirements: Computer, Digitizer ProMB installed on your computer, Digitizer dongle and
an auxiliary mouse (not wireless!)

DIGITIZER MB-ADVANCED – MASKING THE TRUTH VALORA HAMMOND


Digitize a Mardi Gras mask and stitch it all in the hoop. Bring embellishments and learn how to
attach them on the machine if possible. Use existing designs or design a new one using your
imagination. Design the mask in the morning – stitch and embellish in the afternoon.
Class requirements: Computer, Digitizer ProMB installed on your computer, Digitizer dongle and an
auxiliary mouse (not wireless!)

RAGS TO RICHES WALL HANGING CINDY LOSEKAMP


Create a beautiful wall hanging using the latest of techniques – machine embroidery appliqué using
vintage designs and hand-dyed fabrics to make it look like grandma stitched them lovingly by hand,
but you did it quickly and easily by machine. Using the 11k astounding hoop size to create the blocks,
and quilting, then following we’ll piece together and add border s and with Cindy’s magical fold over
binding with perfectly mitered corners to finish this project in one day! Can’t get any better than that!

Create a grid layout and split this design into 4 sections. Learn to create alignment inside the design
to stitch an oversized design and no one will know you don’t have a single hoop that big! Work on
the software in the morning and stitch the design in the afternoon.

MAKING LINES BOBBI BULLARD


Have you dreamed of long, sinuous lines of luscious embroidery running down the front
of your jacket, down your pants leg and across your linens? Bobbi will teach you her
tricks for stitching a perfect continuous line of designs. You’ll go home with a beautifully
stitched line of exquisite designs to insert into your next project.

SPLENDID MASK WALL HANGING BOBBI BULLARD


Learn the art of perfect placement and re-hooping so you can stitch designs larger than
your largest hoop while creating a spectacular festive wall hanging. During this session
you’ll stitch out a large, multi-part embroidery design using a fool-proof method for
perfect placement. The finished design will be framed with multiple borders to take home
along with many new skills.

Make a T-shirt from cutting from serging to finishing hems on the Cover Pro. Fabric will
be provided but if you prefer, bring 1 ½ yard of suitable knit, prewashed fabric. Using
measurements from a current shirt that you bring to class you will make a master pattern
to construct your new classy shirt with a crew neck, lowered or V-neckline.

This cute little lined bag will teach you the fun things you can do with a serger. To make this
bag, you will use a decorative thread to do a wide, wrapped stitch, flatlocking and a rolled hem
in addition to the basic, balanced stitch.

Bring a shirt to class and you’ll learn how to convert it into an attractive jacket. Shirt
should be larger than normally worn. Denim shirts are great for this project but any
shirt will work. Lots of ideas and supplies for embellishment will be provided as well
as detailed instructions.

This quick and easy project is the perfect holder for your cell phone or iPod.
Participants will receive a kit and a free pattern. The only supplies you will need are
your sewing machine and thread. Any color sewing thread will work since there are
no visible top stitches.

Appliquéing in the hoop will give us time to do other things…. like having fun and
celebrating!. In this class, we will open a design to arrange it and appliqué it in the hoop.
With a little Marie Laeau magic, we will then take this Fleur deLei design and create a
clock. Come learn the magic!

You’ll be amazed at the beauty of this scarf. Starting with a hand-dyed silk scarf, you’ll
add beautiful fibers called Tinkerbell fluff while needle felting (find a sea of color
emerging from a mass of curly wool and Angelina). What’s that ….you're done; you’ll
have time to make another! This may possibly be the most fun you’ll have in this century!

CROCHET CONFECTION CINDY LOSEKAMP


Create a beautiful edge that look just like it was done by hand. You will create edges on a
beautiful piece of linen along with an antique embroidery design using Sulky 12 weight cotton
in solid colors resulting in a truly authentic look and feel. Beautiful decorative stitches,
wonderful cotton threads and heavyweight water soluble combined to give us the beauty of
yesteryear with the ease of today!

SILK SCREENED AND STITCHED CINDY LOSEKAMP


Create a panel using silk screens and shimmery metallic paints for a jacket, a quilt center
or any garment. Start with a high quality cotton panel and the silk screening then dry.
Add other components of stitching using a silk hankie , a little felting, lace pieces and
bobbin drawing. Learn to create with easy free motion to add details and life to your
work along with silk screening techniques to produce a work of art.

APPLIQUE ELEGANCE IN QUILTING CINDY LOSEKAMP


Bring a nice sweatshirt and join Cindy for this elegantly adorned sweatshirt jacket
modification. We’ll be fashioning our free form background using hand-dyed fabrics and
adding gorgeous floral appliqués created by the embroidery machine and finishing up
with a simple couched crocheted edge with trim.

DIMENSIONAL LANDSCAPES CINDY LOSEKAMP


In this twist of fiber, cloth and thread, you will learn to take a photo and turn it into a
textural work of art! See how dissect a picture, simplify it and crate the patterns for it,
layer it, then create many types of needlework. Work with free motion, heavy thread,
various stitching including couching and use a felting machine and hand tools.

Bring a pair of jeans, or shirt, slacks or whatever….and go home with a masterpiece! Silk
screens and glitter are not a common combination but Oh so beautiful!! Learn to
silkscreen a design and then accent it with new glitter paints that are completely washable
and will last for year! Join in for inspiration at play……!

You love the look of the vintage crazy quilted pieces you see, but when you try it, it’s
never as easy as it seems. Learn fool-proof methods for patchwork using paper piecing
and using the gorgeous on your machine for elegant embellishments. Create bobbin work
with heavy metallic threads to add extra glamour and glitz to create this adorable bag,
lined in satin with a satin cord.

This beautifully embroidered laptop sleeve is the added touch to help protect your laptop
