The Marcos regime was no doubt one of the dark ages of the Philippines.

Human rights
were violated, corruption was at its height, economy was at its downfall, and our debt
skyrocketed by 3000%. The freedom that we celebrate today was taken away from the
people during Marcos reign, and that is why today people from different walks of life
from they. say Never again.
The exhibit in the Palma hall aims to remind who Ferdinand Marcos is and what
happened under his reign so that students will not be blinded by the historical
revisionism that his son is doing now. It aims to tell us the true events that happened
during the arcos period. While the people suffered under his reign, persecuted, Marcos
and his family were able to enjoy the better things in life as the exhibit showed all his
possessions and ill-gotten wealth amounting to billions of pesos. It presents Marcos as
someone who is not a man of his word as juxtapositions were presented with his quotes
and proofs of contraditctions of what he said. His massive corruption led to the unity of
the people to fight against a common cause and that is to overthrow the authoritarian
reign of Marcos which is the well-known People Power Revolution in 1986. With Cory
Aquino and her constituents, there have been efforts to recover his ill-gotten wealth and
put it to a good cause such as the Comprehensive agrariagn reform. The fact that even
the people beyond the borders of our country joined forces with the Filipino to help
recover his wealth shows how heavy the gravity of Marcos crime is.
This is a reminder of what the people fought for. Marcos is indeed a clever person and
that is why he made all these infrastractures and projects as his knows that Filipinos
have a forgiving nature. They choose to overlook the fact that all these infrastruactures
funds came from debt which remains unsettled today. Sadly, today, it seems that effors
of the victims to fight are put to waste as some Filipinos place high regard on Marcos.
As seen today, his son BongBong Marcos, his wife, Imelda Marcos, and daughter, Imee
marcos continue to stay on top of the political ladder.
While roaming around the exhibit, I was particulary struck by Jovit Salongas insights on
elite democracy.. He made a valid point when he said that what the democratic
government, which is supposed to serve the best interst of the people, seems to only
cater to the interest of the privileged few. That is why our government can be deemed
as an oligarchy. Power is only distributed amongst the elite, and so they get to take
control of the institutions and implement policies that will only benefit them. The masses
on the other hand continue to be deprived of opportunities to get ahead in life as wealth
is only circulated to the elites in our society.
As elections are nearing, it is alarming to see that bong bong marcos is leading in the
vice presidential race. This just proves how forgetful and forgiving Filipinos are. We
must call to mind that up until now does not acknowledge the crimes of his father. He
econitnues to praise the his father and even attempts to mask his fathers misdoings
with something somerhing. As a result, tthose who did not witness the oppression of
Marcos regime blindly believe the lies Bong Bong Marcos feeds to them and are
convinced that the Martial Law brought more good than harm despite the numerous
accounts of victims about the physical and emotional vilence they were subjected to.
They are made to see that those who revolted for decromacy are the enemies of the

state when in fact they are the reason why we celebrate freedom right now. It is
important that these people are given real facts about what happened during the
marcos regime so as to curb the possibility of him being in office.
Bongbong Marcos also claims that he is not his father therefore we should not be
condemning him.
