Join Us for Our First Ever Living in Markham Photo Contest!

Regular readers of our newsletter already know that were committed to celebrating everything great
about life in the City of Markham - not just through our articles, but through images as well. This year
wed like you to join us in capturing our community on film, by making a submission to our inaugural
Living in Markham photo contest.
Entries will be accepted from May 1, 2016, until August 31, 2016 at 5:00 PM (Eastern Standard Time).
Late entries will not be accepted, so be sure to mark your calendar!
Contest Theme
The theme of the contests photos is, of course, Living in Markham. That means we are looking for
original and striking images of everyday life here in our community - whether its architecture, people,
places, faces, or natural settings. You can participate without ever having to set foot outside your own
neighbourhood!
Judging
Entries will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact, requirements
listed in Eligibility and subject matter. The story behind the photo may influence the judges decisions.
Decisions made by the judges are final.
Winners will be announced at the 2:30pm Friday, September 30, 2016, with a special online feature at
http://news.livingrealty.com/. All winners will be notified by email, telephone, or regular mail.
Contest Prizes
After the contest closes, the judges will select 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners, as well as the top 5
honourable mentions. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will receive $500.00, $300.00 and $200.00
(respectively) in cash or credit value to be used towards the purchase of photography gear at Aden
Camera Store in Pacific Mall (Kennedy and Steeles, Markham). Prizes will be awarded within thirty (30)
days of the announcement of the winners. Winners are subject to the eligibility verification, as well as
compliance with the rules and regulations.
Submission Guidelines
Each contest entrant may submit a maximum of three (3) images. Photos must be submitted
electronically via the uploader at http://news.livingrealty.com/photocontest. The entire online form
must be completed in order for your submission to qualify. Any printed photos, or photos submitted
with an incomplete online form, will not be accepted.
Photo Format Requirements: All entries must be digital and can be in colour, or black and white. Each
image must be saved in JPG format, ideally in RGB colour mode and with a PPI (pixels per inch) of 240 or

greater. The size of each uploaded image must be no greater than 2 megabytes (MB); oversized images
will be automatically rejected by the form page.
Rules and Regulations
The contest is for residents of Canada only and shall be construed and evaluated according to the laws
of Canada.
The contest is open to all photographers 18 years of age or older, except employees of the organizers
and sponsors, and/or their immediate family.
Entries must be from individuals only. Groups, organizations, studios and multiple-party entries are not
eligible to participate.
Editing Guidelines: Compositional changes to digital files are not acceptable, and will be disqualified.
Compositional changes include cutting and pasting objects from one photo to another. Cropping the
photo is permitted as well as tonal or colour cast corrections.
Copyright Guidelines: All submissions must be original photographs. Photos that have been entered into
a contest previously, but have not won or placed are still eligible. Signatures and/or watermarks are not
permitted on image submissions. Entrants must have all ownership rights in and to submitted images,
and submitted images must be suitable for publication and use without infringing on the creative rights
of any third party. Living Realty Inc. reserves the right to disqualify, without notice, any submitted
image found in Living Realty Inc.s sole discretion to be incomplete, fraudulent, infringing upon existing
rights of others, inappropriate, libelous, plagiarized, obscene, vulgar, offensive or otherwise unsuitable
in any way for print or publication.
Permissions: By filling out a complete entry form, the contestant:
(a) Agrees to be bound by the official rules and the decisions of Living (including but not limited to
eligibility determinations) which are final and binding in all respects;
(b) Agrees to release Living and its employees and agents from any and all liability, loss, damage or
injury resulting from participation in this contest or awarding, receipt, possession, use and/or misuse of
any prize awarded herein, while also
(c) Acknowledges that Living and its employees and agents have neither made nor are in any manner
responsible or liable for any warranty, representation, or guarantee, expressed or implied, in fact or in
law, relative to any prize;
(d) Consents to use of entrants name, contest entry and/or likeness for advertising and promotional
purposes; the photographer will retain the copyrights. Compensation for any use of a photograph for
purposes other than the Living in Markham Photo Contest or its promotion will be negotiated with the
photographer.
The photographer must have permission to submit photos that include any identifiable people or their
pets. It is the responsibility of the photographer to ensure that publication of the photograph raises no

legal claims. Accordingly, by filling out the entry form, the entrant agrees to compensate the sponsors
fully regarding any claims arising out of the use of the photograph.
By agreeing to the entry form, the participant consents to entry of his or her submission and agrees to
these Official Rules and Regulations and the decisions of the judges, which are final and binding in all
matters of this contest.
