Chapter One

Status Quo- Currently, the first-year Legal Management students of San Beda College
Alabang are being coached and guided to become the best students in their batch.
While this can lead to pressure and sometimes unhealthy studying habits, it currently
sees results as it can be seen that this group of students do work hard. In this research
paper, the researchers aim to examine exactly which of these study habits are the most
effective so that the other students may apply it to themselves.
Relevance or Importance- For students, this study is important so that they may be
able to see how the study habits of fellow Legal Management students work out for
them and be able to work out whether or not said study habits would work for them.
For parents, this study would help them guide their children as necessary with their
studies. It would help them better understand how their children study and help them, as
needed.
For researchers, the study would be beneficial as it would help them understand the
students covered by this study.
Statement of the Problem
Major Problem: How effective are the study habits of first-year LM students?
Minor Problems:
1. Which study habits are the most effective?
2. What limits the effectivity of these study habits?
3. Could a particular study habit be applied to different academic tasks?
Research Locale- The study will take place at San Beda College Alabang. San Beda
College Alabang is a Benedictine-run Catholic school located in Alabang Hills Village,
Muntinlupa City. Furthermore, San Beda College Alabang offers Legal Management as
degree program which is a solid preparation for law school.
Scope and Limitation- The study will cover the students of first-year Legal
Management. Certain students with first-year classes may be counted, but only those

who are enrolled in the Legal Management department. Students of other departments
and levels aside from those mentioned to share classes with first-year students will not
be counted in the study.
Definition of Terms
1. Study Habits - these are the behaviors used when preparing for academic tasks
2. Students - a group of persons studying in order to enter a particular profession
3. Effective study habits - these are the efficient ways of studying that has been
proven by good grades
4. Unhealthy study habits - these are improper routines in studying
5. Academic tasks - These are school-related works assigned and to be
accomplished by students.
6. Legal Management A degree program designed to give students a thorough
grounding in the theory of management studies and in the intellectual foundations
of legal regimen under which most business are conducted.
