Anyone got a spare castle?

Medieval location needed for new film
NESTON’s very own film group Shoreline is busy in
production of its latest movie.
Prelude to Macbeth is an ambitious project, which
is being filmed in this area.
Always keen to try something different, the group
is planning to make the movie later this year. But
this will be challenging when it comes to finding
the right locations, although a whole castle isn’t
actually necessary.
For example, the group has found a gateway at
Birkenhead Priory where it can shoot one of the
scenes. Writer and producer James Chalmers
would be interested to hear from anyone who has
other suggestions for locations that look suitably
medieval, such as an empty barn or crypt or a
walled garden.
He is also keen to hear from anyone active in
medieval re-enactment who fancies being an extra
in the film.
Prelude to Macbeth is a prequel to the Shakespeare play. It tells the story of how
Macbeth meets and marries the infamous Lady Macbeth and it will come as no surprise
to learn that the three witches play a prominent part in the
unfolding story of deceit and ambition. Written in Elizabethan-
style blank verse, the play was performed at the Leverhulme
Drama Festival in April and then at the Wilmslow Festival this
month.
The part of Macbeth is being played by Barry William Powell,
from Great Sutton, and Lorna Stewart, the future Lady Macbeth,
by Rosalie Friday, from Heswall.
Castle owners or those with
ideas for locations please

Town council - one year on
Chairman Moira Andrews looks back on the first year of
Neston Town Council.
It has been my privilege to be the first Chairman of the Council during what has
been a busy, interesting and rewarding year.
One of the first duties of the Chairman was to open the new Aldi store in Ladies Walk – just the
first phase of new beginnings for our market town. The construction of the new Sainsbury store
has begun and improvement works to the frontage of the Town Hall have been completed.
To enable the Council to formulate a plan of action for the Town, an Ideas Forum took place in
October where suggested projects were put forward for each of the ward areas. For instance
new oak benches will be appearing in selected areas.
Regeneration is a very important side of what planning committee are doing at the moment.
They have met with the North West Development Agency (NWDA) in regard to their paper on
small & medium size market towns in Cheshire. The paper highlighted the problems, Neston
faces, but also the positives Neston has to offer.

l Neston Town Council is supporting the summer term activities of Little Actors
Theatre’s - Theatre Club. The Saturday morning classes offer drama and singing/dance
to children aged from 5-11. This term the children are rehearsing scenes and numbers
from ‘Bugsy Malone’ to perform at the Neston Village Fair. Little Actors is able to
offer discounts thanks to the support from the Town Council. There are limited places
available so for details contact 0151 336 4302 or mail@littleactorstheatre.com

Le Tour de Neston
‘The Great Tour’, a marathon cycle event around Britain’s coastline during July to September
will be coming through Neston, one of the 64 stages of a 4,000 mile route. The Tour starts on
3rd July in Devon and make its way anti-clockwise around the coastline and back to Devon.
The riders will average a 60 miles each day taking in every seaside port, village, town, cove
and bay along every kilometre of coastline accessible by bicycle. The tour will cycle from
Preston to Neston on Sunday 15th August and will set off from Neston heading to Conwy on
Monday 16th August.
There is a fantastic opportunity for you or anyone you know to take part for free; be it to cycle
the entire route, take part as a team or take part the day it comes through our area. The group
of riders will be fully supported by a team of experts and led by former Olympic decathlon gold
medallist Daley Thompson and ultra long distance cyclist Jim Rees.

Having the “Right” Will is probably the most

considerate thing you can do for your family
The changing face of society means that more
people than ever would benefit from having a
Will.
Today’s family structures are more complicat-

- could possibly have foreseen. There are more
unmarried couples and single households. Per-
sonal wealth has risen and people now own a
wide range of assets.
A standard Will helps ensure that the basic
essentials are carried out according to your
wishes ; the Right Will can contain special clauses and trusts to help protect your
beneficiaries and your
estate.

Pupils begin the big dig
PUPILS at Woodfall Primary School have been digging for ancient remains during their
residential visit.
A mock archaeological dig has been created within the grounds of Burwardsley
Outdoor Education Centre which is sited close to Beeston Castle and Maiden Castle,
both of which have remains of Iron Age hillforts.
Based on the remains of an Iron Age roundhouse, the dig will provide a real ‘time team’
experience for children to be able to excavate the remains and record any finds that
they may unearth.
Ellie Soper, Project Manager for the Scheme said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for
schools across Cheshire to become involved, helping to bring archaeology alive’

Q. There are so many different hair removal methods now

claiming different benefits that I am really confused. Can
you tell me which methods are permanent and which are
not?
A. The only permanent method of hair removal is electrolysis
of which there are several types: short wave diathermy,
galvanic electrolysis (no longer used) and the Blend method,
which combines the first two methods. However, the
effectiveness of electrolysis is very dependent on a variety of
factors. The procedure is very fine and requires a keen eye,
steady hand and a well trained and experienced operator for
electrolysis to be truly effective. It is most suited to
smaller areas of hair growth such as upper lip, chin,
sides of face, bikini line area etc.
Laser and IPL (intense pulsed light) are better
described as ‘long term hair management systems’
and so are not permanent but can offer an
effective, longer term solution to larger areas of hair
growth such as arms and legs. Laser and IPL are Angela Bartlett is a beauty and

Add a little glamour

to your windows!
Wirral homeowners are being urged to add a little Glamour to their lives following the launch of
a breathtaking new collection of uber-stylish roller blinds.
Apollo Blinds’ new Glamour collection contains 45 stunning new designs with some of the hottest
colours in interior design including purple, black, olive, silver and gold.
There are sheer fabrics through to blackout blinds, stripes, plains and more opulent
patterns to suit all types of home – from the most contemporary to more traditional styles –
according to Marc McQuilliam who runs the blinds business on the Wirral.
Marc said that Glamour was the biggest thing that had happened to window blinds this year and
he wants Wirral homeowners to be amongst the first in the country to see the collection.
“Apollo Blinds has built a reputation for having gorgeous collections of window blinds, awnings
and plantation shutters which are the envy of our industry, but Glamour takes us to a whole new
level,” he said.
“The inspiration for this new range has not only come from the trendsetting European home
interior design trade shows, but from the catwalks in London, Paris and New York – all of which
heavily featured shimmering fabrics contrasted with dramatic black and purple.
“These new fabrics are also more aligned to opulent wall coverings, and will complement modern
homes as well as period styles.
“Window treatments are no longer just an add-on to room schemes, they’re setting the style and
homeowners are coordinating cushions and room dressings around blind colours and designs.”
Marc’s pick of the best include:
Gucci Majestic – a blackout blind (left) from the Amethyst range, boasting an opulent pattern and
rich purple colour. The bold stripes of Hugo Sierra Nevada (middle), from the Gold Rush section.
Alternatively, for a more neutral, sheer option this Cartier Milka design (right) from Decadence is a
great choice. All three are available up to 200cm in width.
For more information about the new Glamour collection and how Apollo Blinds can make a home
beautiful either call Marc McQuilliam on 0151 203 6160 or 07863 805638 or visit www.apollo-
