Week 1

30 March 2015 3 April 2015

Reflection:
After negotiating the amount of teaching periods for the internship, I was given the
primary 5 students that consists of 28 students. I have to teach 1 class with the period of 10
periods in a week. This was because of the absences of another English teacher that took a
1 year leave without pay. I think the principal took the fact that I was in training and that I can
be asked to do anything to fulfil my internship. I had to follow the principals order to make
sure that I can work in that school and have full cooperation from the teachers and
administration.
In the first week, I was a little nervous to teach the primary pupils. At first sight the
pupils were all hyper active and seems to be not obeying the teachers instructions to stop
running and sometimes hitting each other. When I entered the class of 5 AF students were
quite at first because they didnt know the teacher. A brief introduction to the students made
them feel a little comfortable with me, the students would not speak in English and always
asking questions that are not relevant to the questions that I asked. I took the approach to
give them a chance to speak by asking the students to introduce themselves and it worked
fine. The whole week was spent to teach the students listening and speaking using the
topics in the text book. The topic Malaysian Legend was actually was where the English
Class teacher was teaching until I took the class. After asking questions about the topic that
they have learnt it seems that the students a reluctant to speak or tell stories using English,
maybe because they feel shy also lack of vocabulary and confidence of the students.

Week 2
6 April 10 April 2015
Reflection
In the second week, my internship was a tiring one. I had to attend to 2 schools in a
day and both are demanding that I be present. Different from other colleagues that were
doing it at their own schools. But to finish this course I had to go on. The second week of the
internship, the classroom session was going on as planned and the pupils were giving their
full cooperation. I was also elected as one of the AJK of a program from the British Council
that I being done in SK Merotai kecil. The PenPal Program was done here and it has a good
impact towards the pupils. To have friends from Spain is something for them to remember.
I was invited to come along a field trip to SK Pasir Puteh, one of the schools in Tawau
considered as the best primary school in Tawau. A quick briefing and tour around the school
gave me a lot of ideas and changes that I want to make to my own school, even though my
school is a secondary school.

Week 3
13th April 16th April 2015
Reflection
The innovation for the use of puppets in class has started and the students were very happy
and ready to show off their story. I was a little surprised by the pupils enthusiastic to tell their
story and using the puppets. It was like they were ready to give. But the time constrains and
delays because of programs and interruption from attending courses. The flare seem to
slowly died out. I had to encourage the spupils to finish their puppets and some even did not
do their puppets.
This is because of my timing in doing the innovation. And the situation that I am teaching
secondary school in the afternoon. Fatigue was getting the best of me. I started to lose
consentration of the innovation and needed help from colleagues that are always ready to
take my place in class.
My mentor then gave me advise to pick up the pace and try to finish the program before the
end of the week.
The weakness of my internship is that I was held behind doing my action research report
and slides to be presented by the end of the month. But it was sorted out after I manage to
finish the report and I could consentraing on the needs of the ppupils in 5 AF.

Week 4
The Students were ready wit their puppets and story. After seing the puppets and the stages
that the pupils design by themselves, I was surprised by their creativity and know how
knowledge of using cards boards and pieces of cloth to make a small simple stage. I took
pictures and Videos of the session to prove that the innovation was done and the
observation by the mentor was a success for me.
The preparation of this report is a chaotic one. I have only time to review and print out the
report only after writing the it up. The time after the intership was full of programs at the SK
and SMK. In both school I am involved in. but I tried to do the best and this is the result of
that effort.
