Lesson Plan #: 7

Students Name:
WTW Level: Middle to Late Within Word Pattern
Lesson Plan:
1.Read
To
Time:

Reading Level: J-K

Materials needed:

Missing by M. Sobel Spirn.

10 mins

Activities Planned:
The student and I will read chapters 7-8 of
our book, Missing by M. Sobel Spirn. This

week, I want to focus on questioning

with her. During the reading, we will
sticky note anything that we have a
question about. Then, we will come
back to it when we finish and see if
context clues can help us answer the
questions.

2. Read
With
Time:
12 mins

Purpose/Rationale:
The student continues
to enjoy this book and
always remembers what
has happened from
week to week. I chose
questioning because
we have done
predicting and
inferences, both of
which she did well with.

Notes:

Materials needed:

The Mailmans Hat by Kitty Higgins

Activities Planned:
I am going to do another running
record with the student. The book I
have chosen is The Mailmans Hat by
Kitty Higgins. This is a Level K realistic
fiction book.

Materials needed:
3. Write
Red Pen
With
Paragraph to edit
Time:
15 mins
Activities Planned:

Purpose/Rationale:
I am hoping to do
running records every
other week, and
because we skipped
last week, it is time
again! I am hoping that
this book will grasp her
interest and help give
her motivation to read
all the way through, as
she often likes to stop
and focus her attention
on something else.

Notes:

Purpose/Rationale:

Notes:

For a warm up activity, I am going to

have the student write five sentences
about her Halloween. Then, we will go
over and edit them together.
Next, I am going to have a long
paragraph for the student to edit
again. I will focus on forgotten
punctuation and misspelled words.

5. Word
Study
Time:

I want to continue to
see the students writing
skills, and editing her
own work together can
help us to look for the
particular mistakes that
she makes often and
address them. Editing
went well this last week,
it was something she
seemed to enjoy and I
could see her
understanding, which is
why I want to build on
that.

Materials needed:

Pictures with ou and oa vowel pairs

15 mins

Activities Planned:
For a word study this week, I plan to
focus on ou and oa vowel sounds. I
am going to use pictures of different
words that represent these vowel
sounds and have the student sort
them. Then, I will pick out any that she
sorts incorrectly and work them out
with her my breaking down the word
into sounds, then writing it together.

Purpose/Rationale:
Notes:
Through our activity last
week I was really able to
see that the student is
struggling with these two
sounds. Every time we
had an ou word, she
guessed nearly every
vowel before accepting
u in the word. I want
to go over these in
depth with her and
strictly focus on these
two combinations for
this session, with the
goal that she will be
able to differentiate
between the two.

Last: Formative Assessments / Exit Tickets

Try to assess your students skills often at least once a day through observation or planned probes. When to assess is
determined by your students performance, readiness, and your lesson plan. Document formative assessment results below.
Use these for your progress report and for adjustments in your ongoing instruction.

Skill assessing:
Letter sounds

Planned assessment question/probe:

For an exit ticket, I will have my student
choose 5 pictures from the word sort
activity and write the word for each of
them.

Results: How will I adjust my

teaching based on these
results?
