Initial Configuration of Aruba

Instant APs
Things needed to console into Aruba APs
Console serial cable. (regular Ethernet cable into the laptop will not work with
putty)
POE (power over Ethernet) connection To power Aruba APs
Putty Console
PC to configure Aruba initially

1. Configuring Aruba AP for first time use (out of box)

a. Open Putty program on computer
b. Plug console cable into the console port on back of AP
c. Plug other end of console cable into your PC
d. Determine what port is being used for Putty (via device manager)
i. Judging on the console cable you use, you may need to install a
driver for the cable, for instance my console cable is Serial to
USB, I googled the driver for it to first get it to work.
e. Putty into the determined COM port
f. Plug your source of POE into the ENET0
g. Watch the Putty CLI you will notice that the AP is beginning to boot.
i. Watch carefully the CLI will prompt you to interrupt the autoboot
sequence. You must press any key when it tells you to do so.
h. In the CLI it should say (apboot) where you can type go ahead and type
help to show a list of all available commands to make things easier.
i. The first command you need to run (after help) is Factory-reset
i. The AP will then begin to reset the OS (might take a couple
minutes)
j. The next command will be Purgeenv
i. The AP will begin a brief count down so to speak (1.2.3.)
This should only take a few seconds.
k. Once these commands have been ran successfully, you are ready to
boot the AP for first use. This can be done by typing boot and then
press enter.
2. Configuring Aruba AP to generate Factory SSID Wirelessly
a. Once the Aruba AP boots after all of section 1 steps are complete.

ii. You will know youre in config mode when it shows (config)

2. Type end and press enter
3. Type commit apply and press enter
4. Type exit to exit config mode.
c. Look at the AP device at the 2.4 and 5 lights, both or one of them
should be green.
i. If not green.
1. Unplug the POE cord from the Aruba AP so that it loses
power.
2. Using a paper clip, locate the small hole near the ports on
the AP and push and hold firmly
3. While holding the paperclip in place plug the POE back
into ENET0 (using ENET0 is imperative for this whole
process to work correctly)
4. Hold the paperclip in for about 10 seconds then remove
5. After about 1 minute Unplug POE again to remove power
the Aruba AP
6. Repeat all the steps listed above the IF not green part of
this outline.(even though I have done this step by step
verbatim, Ive still had it at times not convert.
ii. If Green
1. Hooray! Thats half the damn battle, congrats you are
awesome
2. Using your PC look for a wireless Broadcast with the name
of instant
3. Once you connect to this SSID, you browser will pop up
into The routers GUI for further and easier configuration.
a. User: admin
b. Password: admin
i. These can be changed after you log into the
router.
3. Setting up your new SSID for use
a. In the top left corner it will display a list of SSIDs your router
broadcasts.

ii. Follow the prompts and menu choices to configure the wireless
network to your companies liking.
iii. Once you have configured a new SSID delete the Factory SSID
instant
iv. From this point on you are good to go

Things to note
If you are adding another Aruba access point to your network and already have

other Arubas configured, you do not need to repeat the process. Just plug the AP
into the network using ENET0 and it will configure itself as an extension.
Should you need to create two master Aruba APs you cannot do so while any other
Aruba is broadcasting. Otherwise they will automatically default to Slave APs
There is a way to install another Aruba as master when you already have another
master AP, however to document these steps would be very long. Just email me at
this point eganz@crossrealms.com and I will configure it for you, or run through the
process with you via phone or Remote assist.
