The Day VFR Syllabus has been replaced with the CASR Part 61 Manual of Standards (MOS)
Schedule 3.

RPLA RPL(Aeroplane) examination


Time permitted 2 hours. Pass mark, not less than 70%
ASL Invigilation fee* $95.70 + CASA fee $65 = $160.70
* Where the exam is sat at a flying school, the invigilation fee may vary from this amount.
The RPLA exam is based primarily on the requirements of Part 61, MOS Schedule 3, Units 1.1.1
BAKC and 1.1.2 RBKA.

Permitted material required to be supplied by the candidate:


A candidate may use either the Airservices List, OR the Jeppesen List of permitted materials ONLY. All other combinations o
materials are NOT permitted.

includes all calculations, writings, drawings or scribbling done on the scribble pad provided. Any
breach of the rules may give CASA grounds for taking action against the candidate under CAR 298A,
which action could lead to the outcome indicated in CAR 298A (5).

RPLN RPL Navigation common category examination

Time permitted 1 hour 30 minutes. Pass mark, not less than 70%
ASL Invigilation fee* $85.10 + CASA fee $65 = $150.10

The RPLN exam is based primarily on the requirements of Part 61, MOS Schedule 3, Units 1.1.1
BAKC, 1.7.1 PNVC, but may include items requirement for navigation and for the safe conduct of a
VFR flight, including:
Properties of maps and charts

Rhumb line tracks, great circle tracks and exact straight line tracks i.e. drawn with a ruler

Visual navigation requirements, position fixing & reporting, track keeping requirements

Altimetry rules, serviceability of altimeters for VFR flights and setting of QNH when to
change from area QNH to circuit QNH

Forecast requirements and interpretation of forecasts, determination of alternate and/or


holding requirements

Determination of fuel requirements CAAP 234-1

Circuit entry and departure requirements

SAR requirements, nomination of SAR, amend/cancel or SAR,

Radio frequency selections

Transponder operations, normal and emergency codes

Lost procedures

Emergency procedures loss of radio, mercy flights, distress messages (MAYDAY and PAN
calls)
