ROBOWARS

PROBLEM STATEMENT:
The aim of the participating team is to construct a robot to eliminate the opponent by either
immobilizing it or by scoring maximum points in given time period.
Specifications:
1. The robot should fit inside a box of dimensions 75cmx75cmx100cm (lxbxh).
2. The total weight of the robot and all the equipment and accessories excluding the power
source should not exceed 35 kg. The weight of external compressor in case of pneumatics or
hydraulics will also be included.
Power Sources:
1. A power supply of 220V AC will be provided at the time of event.
2. Participants should bring their own batteries or battery eliminators. The only permitted
batteries are ones that cannot spill or spray any of their contents when damaged or inverted.
3. Maximum DC source voltage and eliminator voltage allowed is 36V. Potential difference
between any two points on the bot should not exceed 36V.
4. All efforts must be made to protect battery terminals from a direct short and causing a battery
fire.
5. Use of IC Engine is prohibited.
6. Only DC motors are to be used in the robot.
Locomotion:
1. All robots must have easily visible and controlled locomotion in order to compete.
2 .The bot can use rolling (wheels, tracks or the whole robot), walking (linear actuated legs with
no rolling or cam operated motion) or shuffling (rotational cam operated legs) for its locomotion.
3 .Jumping, Hopping, Ground effect air cushions (hovercraft) or Flying (airfoil using, helium
balloons, ornithopters, etc.) are not allowed.
Robot Control:
1. The bot can be controlled wirelessly or with wires.
2. If the bot is wired then all the wires coming out of it should be stacked as a single unit. The
wires should be properly insulated. Teams are suggested to use only rated wires. Loose
connections or improper wiring may lead to direct disqualification even before the event.

3. If the bot is controlled wirelessly, the machine must have at least two dual control circuits
which may be interchanged before the start of the race to avoid frequency interference with
other teams. The case of any interference in the wireless systems will not be considered for
rematch or results.

Pneumatics and Hydraulics:

1. All pneumatic and hydraulic components within the robot must be rated or certified for AT
LEAST the maximum pressure in that part of the system. You may be required to show rating or
certification documentation on ANY component in your system.
2. All pneumatic and hydraulic components on board a robot must be securely mounted.
Particular attention must be made to pressure vessel mounting and armor to ensure that if
ruptured it will not escape the robot.
3. Maximum pressure in the tank containing pneumatic fluid should not exceed the limit of 5 bars
and there should be a provision to check the pressure in the tank.
4. Teams must have a safe and secure method of refilling their pneumatic system.
5. All pneumatic and hydraulic systems must use non-flammable, non-corrosive fluid
Weaponry:
Robots can have any kind attacking mechanisms which include cutters, flippers, saws, lifting
devices, spinning hammers etc. In no case should the arena be damaged by any bot. The
following weapons and materials are absolutely forbidden from use:
1. Weapons designed to cause invisible damage to the other robot.
This includes but is not limited to:
Electrical weapons
RF jamming equipment
EMF fields from permanent or electro-magnets that affect another robots electronics.
Weapons or defenses that stop combat completely of both (or more) robots. This includes
nets, tapes, strings, and entanglement devices etc.
2. Weapons that require significant cleanup, or in some way damages the arena to require repair
for further matches. This includes but is not limited to:
Liquid weapons
Foams and liquefied gasses
Any powders, sand, ball bearings and other dry chaff weapons
Tethered or Un-tethered Projectiles

3. Heat and fire are forbidden as weapons. This includes, but is not limited to the following:
Flammable liquids or gases
Explosives or flammable solids such as DOT Class C devices, Gunpowder / Cartridge Primers,
Military Explosives, etc.
4. Light and smoke based weapons that impair the viewing of robots by an Entrant, Judge, Official
or Viewer.

GAMEPLAY:
All participants build and operate robots at their own risk. Combat robotics is dangerous. Please
take care to not hurt yourself or others when building, testing and competing.
1. CRITERA FOR VICTORY:
A BOT will be declared KNOCKED-OUT if it is unable to travel a distance of 6 inches in 30
seconds.
If no bot is immobilized then winner will be declared on the basis of the points scored.
Points will be awarded for pushing the opponent teams bot into the weapon zone (if part
of the bot is broken by the hit) or out of the arena.
Points will be awarded, once in a round, if the bot reaches opponents starting point, which
can be referred to as safe zone.
2. Each round will be of 5 minute duration.
3. In case of any ambiguity, decision taken by the coordinators would be considered final.
4. Weapons in the arena will be disclosed at the time of the event.

ABSTRACT:
The written abstract should be prepared on the following lines:
1. The weapon systems and power supply method should be explained in detail, along with
proper diagrams. Picture(s) supporting these must be attached.
2. The specifications of all the components used, including motors, remote controller, wires,
battery etc. have to be mentioned.
3. If possible, a video showing the bot performance and the mechanism(s) being used must be
attached.
4. Last date for abstract submission is February 20, 2013. Send your abstracts to
