PART 1: ESSAY
1. Assume that you own a company and you are to decide for the
salary employee per job description. Delegate the enumerated
monthly salary below in the listed job description and explain your
answer why. (Maximum of 3 sentences per job description)
MONTHLY SALARIES TO CHOOSE: 30,000.00 , 25,000.00 , 10,000.00 ,
15,000.00 , 1,000.00
JOB DESCRIPTIONS: DBA, Database Designers, Cashier/Teller, System
Analyst, Programmer

DBA 30,000.00
I gave the highest salary to the database administrator since he
is the one who maintains the database, with the highest authority and
responsibility over the database. Being a database administrator
requires a lot of experience, skills and knowledge to be able to quickly
identify errors and problems in the system. Nobody can just become a
database administrator that easy so I think those efforts of even
becoming one is worthy of the highest salary.

Database Designers 25,000.00

Database Designers would receive the second highest salary
since he is the one who identifies and creates the visuals and structure
of the database. Creating the design of the database is definitely not
an easy job and not just anyone can design these things because
attaining a position like this would also require great skills and
knowledge to be able to correctly identify the appropriate structure to
represent and store the data.

System Analyst 15,000.00

The third highest salary would be for the system analysts.

Programmer 10,000.00
The programmer would be receiving this salary

Cashier/Teller - 1000.00
The lowest salary would be for the cashier/teller since hes only
an end user of the database. He is not really involved in the
development of the database.

2. Enumerate and explain 3 advantages of the Relational Database

Management System over File Based Database Management
System. (Maximum of 3 sentences per enumerated item)
1. Controlling Redundancy
In a file based database management system, data redundancy occurs
because accordingly, each application has its own private files which cannot
be shared between multiple applications. In relational database management
system, this redundancy could be controlled by finding out and using the

common information (unique) between different applications in order to save

storage space.
2. Data Integrity and Security
The data in relational database management system would be
consistent, accurate and secured. So, since everything is contained in the
database, it would be easy to allow and/or restrict users to gain access to
some information in the database by creating accounts, passwords and
specific procedures. Some would only be allowed to view, retrieve and/or
update the data.
3. Data Handling
The data in the database is centrally controlled and would be shared
by multiple users if they are granted the access.
3. Explain the following concepts of DBMS:
a. A database is designed and built.
A database is not just created by an application in a click. The system,
processes and requirements needs to be carefully and thoroughly
understood and analyzed to be able to build a database that would be
appropriate for users.
b. A database is populated with data for specific purpose.
A database is not just populated with random data but specific data for
specific purposes. If the purpose of the database is to store videos related
to a research, videos about other things are not to be allowed to be stored
in that database. Data must be related as to why the database was created
in the first place.
c. A database is stored in a secure computer system.
A database is stored in a server. This server can only be accessed by a
few authorized users which makes it secure because other users cannot
access the server directly. Thus, protecting sensitive information and
preventing the server from being altered.
