In transformer, winding wires are not placed 120 degrees apart, but in

induction motor all the windings (R Y B) are placed 120 degrees apart. So for
the production of rotating magnetic field, the spacing matters a lot. In a
transformer, only alternating magnetic field is present, not rotating. Note:- A
rotating magnetic field can also produced for 2 phase winding, in this case, the
windings has to placed 90 degrees apart( not 120 degrees).

It is not only because of 3 phase supply, but also depends upon the winding.
Only 3 sinusoidally distributed windings whose axes are displaced by 120
degree excited with balanced 3-phase sinusoidal currents, the combined effect
is a rotating magnetic field at stator frequency.

The way the windings placed in a three phase transformer and 3-phase
Induction motor is different.
In 3-Phase induction motor the windings are 120 degree mechanically
displaced unlike in 3-phase transformer.
Since there is both positional and electrical displacement of 120 degrees, the
effect of rotating magnetic field is produced though not in a literal way.
(See the video cited above for the generation of rotating magnetic field)
Hope this answer is useful, the other answers have already covered these
points.
Thanks for A2A :)
