While on Youtube recently, I came across the song, ”God” by John Lennon.

In it,
he sang, “ God is a concept by which we measure our pain.” When he was shot back
in 1980, he was reported to have yelled out, “Oh God,” which made me think he m
ight have been a lot more spiritual than he led others to believe.
I personally think that God is not a concept, but a supreme spiritual being with
whom we share our thoughts, our prayers, our love, our desires, our disappointm
ents, and our spiritual life in general. He is our creator, maybe not in a biolo
gical sense, as science tells us, but in a spiritual sense. This means that once
we are born we are re-created spiritually to follow our hearts and souls in wha
tever path of life has been chosen for us. Yes, chosen, as our lives are not jus
t some random chain of events as most are led to believe. Everything and everybo
dy in our lives is there because it is meant to be and to assist us in our Divin
e Life Purpose.
After we are born we must be “reborn” in order to follow our true spiritual path
in life. Catholics and Christians call it being, “born again,” while still othe
rs refer to it as “going through a transformation of soul or spirit.” Whatever i
t is called, it all leads to the same end, the redemption of one’s soul and the
fulfillment of their, Divine Life Purpose.
The connection of the soul and the spirit (although some believe they are one in
the same), happens when we finally realize who we are meant to be in our life a
nd what our inevitable mission or purpose is in life. Many say they don’t know,
but in truth, if they followed their own heart and truly looked deep within them
selves, connecting with that path their lives are taking them on, but also their
Divine Life Purpose. Their reason for being here would be revealed to them if t
hey only chose to seek it out.
Still a lot of people stray from their path, either to please someone else or to
follow beliefs they truly don’t share within, if only to be accepted as part of
a bigger group. Too many people are guilty of this and in the end, never really
reach their full potential or spiritual purpose in life. A life not wasted, but
unfulfilled in its’ purpose.
Contrary to what some think or believe, our lives have been pre-destined. We are
given choices and free will to be who we are meant to be, but in such a way as
to always lead us on the path we were destined to follow. There are no coinciden
ces in life. We meet exactly who we are meant to meet and be with during the var
ious stages of our lives whether it be family, friends, or even just acquaintanc
es.
Religion, on the other hand, is a concept. It was founded many thousands of year
s ago as a unified form of worship to bring those of like faith together. Althou
gh various religious denominations differ in many ways, they all seem to believe
in the same God, or in some others, more than one God. Belief and worship is wo
rldwide in it’s scope. Love, forgiveness, and spiritual respect are the goals we
must set for ourselves if we are to co-exist and survive.
So God should never be thought of as a concept to measure pain, but as a belief
that Love and Understanding will one day unify us all, no matter what religion w
e follow. God is not found in any one religion, but in the hearts and souls of e
very human being on this earth. As with all things, though, God depends on us to
do what we can to make a difference in our own lives and the lives of others. A
s John F. Kennedy once said, “Here on Earth, God’s work must truly be our own.”
Godspeed, my Friends!
