Overview
This guide describes the configuration procedures required for the Genband
Communications Server (CS) 2000 to make full use of the capabilities of BroadWorks.
The Genband CS 2000 is a softswitch that uses the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) to
communicate with BroadWorks for call control.
This guide describes the specific configuration items that are important for use with
BroadWorks. It does not describe the purpose and use of all configuration items on the
Genband CS 2000. For more information, see the Communications Server 2000
Configuration [1] supplied by Genband.

Interoperability Status
This section provides the known interoperability status of the Genband CS 2000 with
BroadWorks. This includes the version(s) tested, capabilities supported and known
issues.
Interoperability testing validates that the device interfaces properly with BroadWorks via
the SIP interface. Qualitative aspects of the device or device capabilities not affecting the
SIP interface such as display features, performance, and audio qualities are not covered
by interoperability testing. Requests for information and/or issues regarding these aspects
should be directed to Genband.

2.1

Verified Versions
The following table identifies the verified Genband CS 2000 and BroadWorks versions and
the month/year the testing occurred. If the device has undergone more than one test
cycle, versions for each test cycle are listed, with the most recent listed first.
Compatible Versions in the following table identifies specific Genband CS 2000 versions,
which the partner has identified as compatible and they should interface properly with
BroadWorks. Generally, maintenance releases of the validated version are considered
compatible and may not be specifically listed here. For questions on maintenance and
compatible releases, contact Genband
NOTE: Interoperability testing is usually performed with the latest Generally Available (GA)
device firmware/software and the latest GA BroadWorks release and service pack at the time the
testing occurs. If there is a need to use a non-verified mix of BroadWorks and device software
versions, customers can mitigate their risk by self-testing the combination using the BroadWorks
Network Device Interoperability Test Plan [3].

Known Issues
This section lists the known interoperability issues between BroadWorks and specific
partner release(s). Issues identified during interoperability testing and known issues
identified in the field are listed.
The following table provides a description of each issue and, where possible, identifies a
workaround. The verified partner device versions are listed with an X indicating that the
issue occurs in the specific release. The issues identified are device deficiencies or bugs,
so typically not BroadWorks release dependent.
The Issue Number is a BroadSoft ExtraView partner issue number if the testing was
performed by BroadSoft. If the testing was performed by the partner or a third party, the
partner may or may not supply a tracking number.
For more information on any issues related to the particular partner device release, see
the partner release notes.

EV 44874

Double ringback in some scenarios

Partner Version
SN08

Issue Description

SN07

Issue Number

If the Address Complete Message (ACM) received by the CS 2000

does not contain an Optional Backward Call Indicator (OBCI)
indicating that there is inband information available, then the CS
2000 maps the ACM to a 180 (without SDP). This may result in a
double-ringback if there is actually inband information available,
since the endpoint plays local ringback when it receives a 180
without SDP.
Workaround: The call server must send an ACM including an
OBCI with the Inband Information Indicator set to Inband
Information or Appropriate Pattern Is Now Available for the
CS 2000 to map it to a 183.
EV 63899

Call Forwarding No Answer fails in some scenarios

In scenarios whereby the CS 2000 originates the call and the
called party endpoint supplies early media (that is, a SIP 180 with
SDP), and the call is forwarded with Call Forward No Answer
(CFNA), the call may fail if the CS 2000 configuration results in
sending an early update.
Workaround: Set the networkSupportForkingProxies to false in
the BroadWorks Application Server command line interface (CLI)
context interfaces/sip.

BroadWorks Configuration

3.1

BroadWorks Application Server Configuration

The following sections identify the BroadWorks Application Server parameter settings and
configuration steps significant to interoperability with the Genband CS 2000.
NOTE: There can be minor differences in the Application Server configuration command syntax
for each BroadWorks release. For the exact command syntax, see the appropriate release level
documentation.

3.1.1

SIP Parameters
The following table identifies the steps to configure the SIP parameters on a BroadWorks
Application Server when it is deployed with a Genband CS 2000. Note that in some
cases, some steps are optional.
Step

Command

Purpose

BroadWorks Application Server SIP Parameter Configuration Steps

Step 1

Set privacy version.

AS_CLI/Interface/SIP> set
privacyVersion RFC3323

Set the privacy version to the

version supported by the CS 2000.

Done
Step 2

Enable symmetric signaling.

AS_CLI/Interface/SIP> set
symmetricSignaling true
SIP symmetric signaling change
will not take effect until a
restart is performed
Done

Step 3

Configure for E.164 format.

AS_CLI/Interface/SIP> set sendE164
true

Optionally, configure the Application

Server to use symmetric signaling
for SIP. This is not required to
interoperate with the CS 2000 and
may depend on other elements in
the network.
NOTE: If this parameter is modified,
then the Application Server must be
restarted.
Configure the Application Server to
use E.164 format for originator
identification. Applies to the From
and P-Asserted-Identity headers.

Done
Step 4

Configure originating trunk group

format.
AS_CLI/Interface/SIP> set
originatingTrunkGroupFormat xnortel-profile
Done

BROADSOFT PARTNER CONFIGURATION GUIDE GENBAND CS 2000

2014 BROADSOFT, INC.

Configure the Application Server

with the x-nortel-profile as the
originating trunk group format. This
triggers the Application Server to
send the x-nortel-profile header in
SIP messages to the CS 2000.
The x-nortel-profile header is used
by the CS 2000 to identify a trunk.

20-BD5071-00
PAGE 10

Step

Command

Purpose

BroadWorks Application Server SIP Parameter Configuration Steps

Step 5

Configure max forwards.

AS_CLI/Interface/SIP> set
maxForwardingHops 70
Done

The default maxForwardingHops is

10. However, this is too low in
some interoperability scenarios
between BroadWorks and the
CS 2000.
The preferred setting for the
CS 2000 is 70.

Step 6

Disable network INVITE without

SDP.

The CS 2000 does not support an

initial INVITE without SDP.

AS_CLI/Interface/SIP> set
networkSupportInviteWithoutSDP
false

Disable on BroadWorks as shown.

Done
Step 7

Disable AS forking proxy behavior.

AS_CLI/Interface/SIP> set
networkSupportForkingProxies false
Done

The CS 2000 has not fully

implemented compliance with
RFC 3261 with respect to forking.
To disable this behavior on
BroadWorks, set the
networkSupportForkingProxies to
false.

The following is an example of the SIP level of the Application Server CLI. This
configuration was used for interoperability testing between BroadWorks and the Genband
CS 2000.

Step 2

Set Enterprise sourceId to CS 2000

trunk identifier.

The sourceId is sent in the 302

contact to the Application
Server, for use as the
x-nortel-profile header setting.

Example:
NS_CLI/SubscriberMgmt/Enterprise>
set Acme sourceId CIT6PROF
Done

The trunk identifier is a string

that must be identified by
Genband.

NS_CLI/SubscriberMgmt/Enterprise>

Step 3

Set sourceId for site.

NS_CLI/SubscriberMgmt/Enterprise/Sit
e> set Acme DFLT_SITE sourceId
CIT6PROF
Done

Optional. Configure the

sourceId on a per site basis.
The sourceId is sent in the 302
contact to the Application
Server, for use as the
x-nortel-profile header setting.
The trunk identifier is a string
that must be identified by
Genband.

3.2.5

Call Type/Country Code Parameters

The following table identifies the steps to configure the Call Type parameters on a
BroadWorks Network Server when it is deployed with a Genband CS 2000. Note that in
some cases, some steps are optional.

Purpose

BroadWorks Network Server Call Type/Country Code Parameter Configuration Steps

Step 1

Add operator-assist international

call type.
NS_CLI/System/CallP/CallTypes> add
OAIN INTERNAT false "Intl Operator
Assisted"

Add a call type for operatorassisted international calls

(that is, 01+).
Assign the call type to the dial
plan entry.

Done
NS_CLI/System/CallP/CountryCodes/Dia
lPlan/Entry> set 1 NADP 012 019
prefix 3 30 callType OAIN

Purpose

Step 2

Disable normalization for operator

calls.

Operator and operator-assisted

calls should be sent to the
CS 2000 as dialed, so
normalization (that is,
conversion to E.164) must be
disabled.

NS_CLI/System/CallP/CallTypes> set
OA supportE164 false
Done
NS_CLI/System/CallP/CallTypes> set
OAP supportE164 false
Done
NS_CLI/System/CallP/CallTypes> set
OAIN supportE164 false
Done
Step 3

Data fill NDC table.

NS_CLI/System/CallP/CountryCodes/ndc
>
NS_CLI> Cut and paste commands from
Appendix A

Genband CS 2000 deployments

require international calls to be
normalized (E.164). To do this,
the Network Server National
Destination Code (NDC) table
must be data filled with dummy
entries for the country codes
that are not defined.
Cut and paste the commands
from Appendix A into the
Network Server context shown
at left.
Errors can be reported for digit
ranges already data filled. This
is expected and it is not a
problem.

4.1

Genband CS 2000 Session Server/Trunk Sample Data Fill

Note that two remote SIP server instances must be created. One handles incoming calls
from BroadWorks and the other handles outgoing calls to BroadWorks. This is required
because the BroadWorks platform requires that SIP INVITES be sent to the Network
Server to forward to the Application Server(s). The Application Server does not accept
INVITES directly from the Genband CS 2000. The INVITES originating from BroadWorks
originate from the Application Server IP address. This means separate incoming and
outgoing trunks must be built since INVITES always go to one IP address and always
arrive from another.
The following tables show how to provision the Genband CS 2000 (CS2K) session server
trunks via its provisioning GUI.
