Where to find Simulation Scenarios (FREE)

American Association of Medical Colleges. (2013).MedEdPORTAL. Retrieved from https://www.mededportal.org/

Several resources, search for simulation scenarios. Designed for residents and med students. Scenarios reflect
the lifespan (newborn to elderly), including decompensating peds patient (4 unfolding scenarios from
osteomyelitis to septic shock), pneumothorax, pneumonia, cardiac tamponade, dental office emergencies, a
night on call, interprofessional communication skills, neutropenic fever/sepsis, and palliative care encounters.
Most scenarios are peer reviewed.
Center for Health Science interprofessional Education, Research and Practice. (n.d.). Scenario Building & Library.
Retrieved from http://collaborate.uw.edu/educators-toolkit/scenario-building-library.html-0
Template for scenario development and examples of building a scenario. Ideas for building a simulation
curriculum and a scenario storyboarding tool. Scenario library includes acute pharyngitis, post-op bladder
distention, wound care, respiratory distress. The full website contains other information on interprofessional
team training, debriefing tools, error disclosure training, etc.

Developed by faculty at schools of nursing for nursing and other health programs. Scenarios include: GI bleed,
femur fracture, head injury, heart failure, pediatric (nursing and/or respiratory therapy), basic, intermediate and
complex medical/surgical. Pre-scenario worksheet is also provided. Consistent template with objectives, history
and information, orders, supplies needed, medications, simulator set up, events, competencies, prompting
question, and debriefing topics.
