The demand was that high, that we (some
friends living in The Netherlands) decided
to start a foundation: the Stichting Chris-
telijke Hulp in Kenia (SCHiK) and to elevate
the small tractor to the beginning of a seri-
ous project.
The boardmembers of the foundation
knew the history of the problems in the
area through their chairman, who has been
living for almost eleven years in the same
area. As the principal of a theological col-
lege with around 50 acres of land, he had
experienced the same problems as the
surrounding farmers: no tractors available
to plough the land in time!
Since then the project has shown a remark-
able progress. In 2007 another – bigger
- tractor was added, able to pull a bigger
plough. Other implements were added: a
harrow, a planter, a maize sheller, spraying
equipment, trailers etc.
