OVERVIEW OF THE KMC 250-S

Ideal for medium and short runs, prototypes, over-sized parts and steel mold making.
Every machine is laser verified for 0.0004 positioning accuracy over full table travel.
0.0001 repeatability with 0.0001 resolution.
7.5 HP (30 minute duty rating) spindle motor with high-low geared head.
24 x 14 x 6 work envelope with 750 lb. table load capacity.
Easy loading and unloading of work pieces.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION OF KEY FEATURES

Meehanite Casting - Machine frame is cast of rugged

Meehanite with heavy ribbing for superior rigidity and
vibration dampening. This rigidity contributes to durability
of machine and tooling, as well as precision of actual
machining performance.

Ultra-Precision Ball Leadscrews - Precision-ground, zerobacklash, 1-1/4 diameter, reciprocating ball leadscrews
provide 0.0001 repeatability over full length of table
travel.

Box Ways and Dovetail Guides - Extra wide square box ways support the saddle, while
dovetail guideways are used for accuracy alignment. Ways are hardened and ground to a 16
microinch finish, and bearing surfaces are coated with Turcite-like material for nearfrictionless table motion.

Ram Construction A sliding ram allows for flexibility in machining over-sized and oddshaped parts. Solid ram construction is also available.

Spindle Power - At ONLY 58 RPM of the cutter, the programmable speed spindle motor
reaches its full horsepower rating (7.5 HP 30-minute duty rating) and produces 679 ft-lb.
of torque, allowing for the accurate removal of more than 8 cubic inches per minute of steel,
depending on cutting parameters.

Headstock Overlap - The 4-3/8 diameter, hardened and precision-ground quill is 14-3/4
long, and is supported with precision P-4, Class 7 angular-contact spindle bearings. When
fully extended 6 along the Z-axis, the quill has 8 of overlap housing support for chatterfree milling and boring.

Z-Axis Leadscrew Mounting - The Z-axis leadscrew is

mounted at a minimum distance from the quill, resulting in
accurate axial positioning and superior deflection resistance.
Milling rigidity is greatly enhanced.

Laser Verification - All KMCS are laser verified for 0.0004 positioning accuracy over the
full X and Y table travel axes before being shipped.

The Lagunmatic-2100 is a true state-of-the-art open architecture CNC, not just an add-in board
for a personal computer. Is factory-hardened. Every component is designated and selected for

system over a bridgeboard. One, handles the real time machine operating tasks, and the other the
workstation CNC duties.

high line surges, sags, spikes and electrical noise. Should power supply disturbances exceed
