Powerway Made measurement of Angular Displacement (Slip Ring Induction Motor) of the rotor of

Three phase Slip Ring Induction machine with respect to the stator on application of DC to the field winding
and simultaneously to each phase winding in sequence.

THEORY

Electromagnetic Placed in the Magnetic Field.

Let an electromagnetic ,which is free to rotate about its axis in placed in the magnetic filed of
permanent magnets. When the field produced by the electromagnetic Fr is in the direction of the main field,
produced by the stationary permanent magnets Fm, the torque produced is zero as shown in fig.
When the electromagnetic is moved through an angle ( = 90o) the axis of the rotor field, Fr will make
an angle, = 90o with the main field Fm. The rotor field Fr will try to come in line torque is considered as
negative because it reduces the torque and torque angle .
Similarly for = 270o , the rotor field F r will try to come in line with the main magnetic field Fm , thus
producing a clockwise torque as shown in fig. The torque is considered as positive because of increase in the
torque angle .
When torque angle

is kept in between 0-180o, the torque produced is negative, whereas when is

between 180o to 360o , the torque produced is positive. When torque angle, = 90o or = 270o (-90o),
torque produced is maximum negative or maximum positive respectively.

Thus we can conclude that the variation of torque

with respect to torque angle is similar to that in the

1.

Connect AC supply 220V /50Hz to the AC input by 3 Pin line connector given on left hand side on the
panel box..

2.
3.

Connect the terminals of Voltmeter and Ammeter in correct Polarity as shown in front panel.
Before switch ON the supply ensure that both regulators i.e. R1 and R2 are in extreme anticlockwise
position i.e. at minimum.

4.

Now set the rotor voltage 50VDC using knob on DC supply Rotor. Also set the stator voltage supply
50VDC using knob DC supply stator.

5.
6.

Now switch on panel supply from isolator /MCB 4P given on left hand side of the panel box.
Touch the positive end terminals of stator supply through Patchcord from front panel to the R phase
winding Stator of the Motor marked as R as shown to check the rotation of rotor and to measure its
Angular Displacement of Slip Ring Induction motor in Sequence.

7.

The Stator Coil is also produced when current in the stator winding starts following. The rotor will
rotate till the two fields are aligned with each other. When the rotor comes to stand still position,
mark the position of the rotor.

8.

Again connect the same open terminal marked as Y terminal of the low voltage supply to the Y phase
winding stator of the Motor. Now the position of the stator field will change according to the displacement
of the windings. The rotor will again rotate, till the two fields are aligned with each other.

9.

Repeat the same process by connecting the open end at the B phase of the stator winding of the
Motor. The position of the stator field will change and the rotor with rotate till the two fields are aligned
with each other.

10.

Similarly, connect the same open terminal to the R- phase of the winding the stator and the rotor will
again rotate till the two fields will not be aligned.

11.
12.

Now, note down the total angle turned by the rotor during this process form its original position.
Repeat the same procedure but now connect the open terminals to end R, end B, end Y, and end R
successively.Note the Rotation of the rotor and its Direction.
