TheAmmeter
Theammeterisadevicethatwhenconnectedinserieswithacircuitelement,canmeasure
thecurrentflowingthroughtheelement.Figure2illustratesthisidea.
FromFigure2,tworequirementsareevidentforobtainingacorrectmeasurementof
current:
1. Theammetermustbeplacedinserieswiththeelementwhosecurrentistobemeasured
(e.g.,resistorR2)
2. Theammetershouldnotrestricttheflowofcurrent(i.e.,causeavoltagedrop),orelseitwill
notbemeasuringthetruecurrentflowinginthecircuit.Anidealammeterhaszero
internalresistance.

TheVoltmeter

Avoltmetermustalsofulfilltworequirements:
1. Thevoltmetermustbeplacedinparallelwiththeelementwhosevoltageitismeasuring.
2. Thevoltmetershoulddrawnocurrentawayfromtheelementwhosevoltageitismeasuring,
