The Application of Coal Cleaning Detection System based on

Embedded Real-time Image Processing

ABSTRACT:
This paper discusses the application of image processing
methods in the coal preparation detection system. The system uses
a light source to illuminate the coal and coal gangue, and then
captures images with a CCD camera. After that, those images are
sent to analyze in the image processing module. The control
system set the jet value to exclude gangue. For the image
processing, the sample images are performed with the help of
matlab, by using the module of preprocessing, image segmentation
and featured selection. After analyzing the grayscale histogram of
the coal and gangue, the distinction between coal and coal gangue
gray threshold are obtained. Finally, the control system compares
the gray value and threshold to distinguish coal and gangue, and
then exclude gangue to the transportation crawler.

EXISTING METHOD:
Environmental control technologies were developed to
remove or prevent the formation of SO2, NOx and particulates
when coal is burned to generate electricity at conventional, coalfired power stations. These clean coal technologies extend from
coal washing to combustion to end-of-pipe techniques.
Coal washing reduces the amount of ash in raw coal to
facilitate combustion and increase the energy content per tonne. In
many cases, it is also possible to reduce the sulphur content in coal
in order to decrease the production of sulphur dioxide when burnt.
Coal blending and briquette are also efficient fuel preparation
methods.

PROPOSED METHOD:
This paper introduces a high-speed image
processing of embedded systems based on FPGA and
DSP collaboration used in coal preparation detection
technology. The system uses a modular design,
including a real-time image acquisition module, DSP
image processing module, and peripheral interface
module. The image processing required doing the
following arithmetic operations, including image
smoothing to enhance, edge detection, region
segmentation, gray-scale analysis, pattern
recognition. This system meets the real-time
requirements of the gangue detection program.
Improve the detection accuracy is conducive to the
subsequent row gangue processing. Meanwhile, in
order to meet the requirements of different levels of
image processing, we can be further optimized
through the FPGA internal resources to deal with the
different levels of complexity of image processing, so
that the system has more flexibility and greater
scalability.
