Planet Philippines
Philippine is a country known to be very rich
when it comes to environment and natural resources. I could
really say it is when the documentary film shows us the awesome
journey into the countrys wilderness sites and the natural world
of life. It also prevails the wonders of biodiversity underwater and
the underground terrains. The film travels around Luzon, Visayas,
and Mindanao to see the beauty of Philippine nature and the lives
depending on it. Its great knowing that their focus is not only on
a particular place but they accord it on what is their theme all
about. The natural aspect of the Philippine archipelago! But as
years passed by, the progress of modernization is elevating which
affects the natural environment we are living with. As the
numbers of subdivisions, tall buildings, and infrastructures
increase, our land blessed with an abundant natural resources are
gradually diminishing. It will not only affect the land but also give
a total destruction of the biodiversity living within the area.
Forests or Rainforests are places where large
number of life are dwelling. Various kinds of birds, monkeys, and
wildlife are inhabited and are depending only in the habitat they
are living in for their survival. But as large part of the forest is
becoming bald due to illegal loggings, deforestation, Kaingin
system, and other human-induced activities, extinction of several
lives might transpire. They cant survive without the environment
they used to live and depend with.
There were endangered species shown in the film.
One of them is called a Shama bird (?) which is a black-feathered
bird but turns dark blue when hit by the sunlight. So peculiar and
amazing. Another is an eagle. As we all know, eagles are

considered as endangered species. I was astounded by their

appearance as well as their names. Actually, it was a family of
eagles. The father is named Cabu, Aya is the mother, and their
offspring is Cabuaya! It is so cute having the names of the parents
as the combination of the name of the offspring. I was also
amazed by their features. Their feathers seem to be soft and
fragile. It is like you dont want to touch it because you might
disrupt its own natural beauty. See how amazing God is creating
magnificent species and yet people who are stewards of the
environment are the one abusing and destroying it. We didnt
realize that we cant ever see the different beauty of life once
they become extinct because of our wrong doings.
We did not only see the landscape beauty but
also the seascape and the different marine life living in it.
Scientist hailed the Philippines as a mega biodiversity haven for
there are thousands of plants and living animal species can be
found nowhere else on Earth. It made me very proud living in this
country. We saw a variety of fishes such as trumpet fish, lionfish,
clownfish, etc. We also saw few species of sharks like thresher
shark and white-tailed shark which are commonly living in the
small caves underneath the sea. There are also manta rays,
seahorses, and different kinds of corals. I was glad knowing there
are still many marine life existing in seas and oceans after what
exploitative people have done to destroy water environment and
life. There is a place wherein authorities limit fishermen for
fishing. I guess its a good practice especially when no one uses
explosive materials for fishing. I hope all of us will realize how
important marine life is to us.
All that I could say is that God sophistically
created the world. Philippines is fortunate enough to have a
prosperous natural resources that other countries dont have. The
film simply implies that we people are the only one responsible
for taking the environment and other life a really good care. We
must not abuse of what is given to us but instead utilize the
resources optimally not only for us but for the survival and
consumption of the succeeding generations. Given as having the

highest thinking capacity than any other living creatures, we must

not let endangered species be gone from this magnificent world
of ours. Our environment and the life of other species are now at
stake. We must look for a solution and take for an action to
prevent further devastations.
