1 OVERVIEW AND PROPERTIES

General Description
The Door Control SubSystem DCSS for DO2000 is the VF drive and control system for the
Door Operator DO2000 for mid-range applications.
The DO2000 door operator uses a linear belt transmission between an AC motor and the
door panels. The position is acquired by an incremental encoder. The drive is operated by a
VF-inverter with a microprocessor control.
System Environment
The DO2000 door operator system is able to interface with a discrete interface
(MCS120/220/310/312, NE/NH 300), with a serial link (MCS311/321/411) and with a Relay
Controller by an additional Interface Box, which is required to service the enhanced amount
of I/Os.
Drive
The 3-phase inverter is the power interface between the P system and the motor. Ultrafast
switching technology using IGBT power devices leads to noiseless operation and low current ripple due to the high switching frequency of above 15kHz. The recommended motor is
a standard AC machine which provides low costs, high reliability and no maintenance (no
brushes).
Control
The control and the profile generation is done by a microprocessor system. Furthermore it
has to establish the communication to the main controller, which can be done by discrete
signals or via a serial link according to the controller application. Position recognition and
security functions are implemented. The PWM unit is realized by a customer specific Asic
called Elga ( Elevator Gate Array).
Position Reference
The door position is acquired by an incremental pulse encoder mounted on one pulley axis
of the doorsystem. The resolution is 500Pulses/Turn; 2Tracks; 90Shift. The supply is provided by the DCSS (Ud=+15V).
Interface
All In- and Outputs for signal use are optically insulated. Different signal levels can be processed to fit all required system configurations.

Passenger Protection
A passenger protection system is implemented using the position and speed information to
detect deviations while closing of the door. If these exceed an adjustable limit, the door will
fully reopen and switch the output Door Opening Signal DOS for a feedback to the controller. The passenger protection is disabled during Nudging mode and EFS operation. The
passenger protection can not substitute a reversal device like EDP or LRD. It is only an additional safety function in case of mal function of a reversal device.
Installation and Set-Up
All installation parameters are set via the OTIS Service Tool to gain easy adjustment and
long term stability. An easy Set-Up procedure, which is Menu driven, programs the door
system after an automatic learn run to an optimum result according to the specific door type
and the controller environment. A fundamental set of parameters will be written into the
EPROM for a permanent storage. These values can be changed for a final fine-adjustment
in the Set-Up Parameter Menu.
Be attention that the parameters will be overwritten with the Default Values in case of
executing an Installation Run again.
Outline
The DCSS is mounted in a metal coated plastic box to be confirm the EMC requirements.
This enclosure is fixed via double lock tape on the door lintel of the operator.
Power Supply
The supply will be provided via main switch and fuse in the controller and the traveling
cable.
Nom. Voltage: 1x230V-240V AC, 50/60HZ, -15%/+10% (195V..264Vac)
Output Voltage: 3 * 0..230Vac / 3-Phase
Nom. Current: 3 * 1.5Aac / 3-Phase
Output Frequency: 0..128Hz / 3-Phase
Electrical Output Power: 580VA continuous (Un=230V, In=1.5A, Ipeak=8A)
Mechanical Output Power: Appar.Outp.Power * Efficiency(AC motor) _* cos =
580W * 0.5 * 0.6 = 175W
The Leakage Current: max. 13.5mA
Electromagnetic Noise and Interference
The fast switching power devices and the according driver circuits produce wide spread
noise. To prevent the propagation through the air, a metal coated enclosing the DCSS is
used. The DCSS for DO2000 fulfills the requirements given in PREN12015/16.

3 THE CONCEPT OF SPEED CONTROL

The optimum supply for an induction motor is a sinusoidal voltage. The achieved sinusoidal
current forms a flux vector of constant value and circulating speed in the stator. The torque
will be constant.
Torque and speed can be controlled by varying the voltage and frequency of the multiphase
system. The rotating direction depends on the phase sequence.
In power applications the analog control (amplifier) of high voltages and currents will lead to
uneconomical power losses. Low losses can be achieved by applying the semiconductor
devices as switches: Nearly no off-state losses and small dissipation in the (saturated) onstate. The additional switching losses set up the maximum switching frequency.
To achieve sinusoidal (average) output values different PWM techniques can be applied.
The inductance of the motor smoothes the current ripple and therefore the torque at the
shaft. This smoothing effect increases with the switching frequency.

Inverter Power Stage

The inverter power stage consists of an input filter, EMC reduction circuit, an uncontrolled
full-bridge Rectifier, the DC Link (buffer capacitor, fuse) and the 3 Phase Inverter stage. Using PWM modulation techniques the requested (average) output values are obtained according to the duty cycle of the bridge leg switching pattern. The power stage is able to drive
three phase AC motors as well as DC-motors. In Dc-motor mode two half bridges (U, V)
are used for armature and the third (W) half bridge is used for field control. The supervising
circuit will limit each bridge leg current to its maximum of 8 A.

5.1 Inverter Control and Protection Concept

After connected to the mains, the pre-loading status for the DC Link is controlled by the DC
Link Supervisory Circuit. The capacitor Cdcl is preloaded via the resistor Rdcl to reduce the
surge current. After a software controlled delay time the DC Link Relays SWdcl short-circuits
the resistor Rdcl.
The DC Link Current Idcl of the inverter stage is observed with a shunt resistor RSdc. All
short-circuit- and overload-conditions lead to an according voltage drop on the resistor, except ground faults to the positive DC bus bar. Under normal operation the induced voltage
will be 0V.

6 PCB-Board feature Description

6.1 Indicators
The microprocessor ready state is shown on the board with an Light Emitting Diode (LED).
Under normal conditions the RUN LED must be lit.

6.2 Errors
All failures are recorded by the P-control for error logging reports to allow monitoring of the
correct operation.

6.3 Power Supply

The supply of the IGBT drivers (4 x 24Vdc/150mA) as well as the 5V/1A supply of the P
system and 15Vdc/200mA incremental encoder supply are provided by a switched mode circuit which is powered from the DC-Link.

6.4 DCSS Microprocessor System

The door-commands can be received either from the (L)MCSS via serial link with a
MCS_311/411 or as an discrete input signal in any other configuration. These received door
commands will be accepted by the supervisor, if there was no malfunction and the position
is known.
The profile generator module receives this accepted command and provides a velocity profile to the pulse width modulation module, which generates the respective pulse pattern.
With this PWM-technique the frequency can be varied from 0 to 128 Hz (0.25 Hz solution)
with a voltage range from 0 to 230V.
A Customer specific ASIC (Elga) controls the 3-phase power IGBT module. To interface with
external signals there are provided optically insulated level converters. Furthermore there is
an speed encoder logic for position reference and two serial interfaces to communicate with
the (L)MCSS and the Service Tool. The microprocessor unit consists of the memory circuits,
watchdog and address decoding.

6.5 Discrete Inputs/Outputs

The different external input signals (30V and 110V) are converted to logic level by optically
insulated level converters located on the DCSS Inverter board.
30V Inputs:
To cover most applications, two different control methods for 30V operation can be realized:
Pull-Up (+):
- Pull-Down (__):

Two inputs (DOB [P5/7] and DO [P5/8]) are activated by a

voltage of 30V (I~12mA) referring to HL2.
Two inputs (/SO [P5/4] and /NDG [P5/5]) are activated by
pulling the appropriate input to HL2 (I~-12mA). A supply of
+30V must be provided at P5/1.

The inputs are protected against overvoltage (Uin < 80V).

Two additional vacant inputs are available for special purposes which are not defined until
now. One 30 V input is pulling down, the other is high active.
Outputs:
Two output stages DOS and /DOL can switch +30V to connected devices. The supply connected at +30V [P5/1] must be able to cover the requested power according to the connected devices. The referring ground is HL2.
Recovery diodes prevent the transistors from overvoltage due to inductance at the output.

7 Interface Description

7.1 Connection to L C B (Discrete Interface)

The controller must be set to Door Operator=DO2000 (if not available: 9550).
The Limited Car Board has no serial link. The communication between the systems is done
by the discrete signals only. These are the DO and /NDG signals which are interpreted by
the DCSS as a door command.
The reversal device signal DOB, LRD, EDP and the /DOL output of the DCSS are read by a
Remote Station Board.
These discrete signals are converted by the RSB into a serial information and are sent to the
LCB via the serial link.
Reopening for passenger protection is signaled to the operational controller at the DOB input by the Door Open Signal (DOS) of the DCSS.
Nudging operation is provided as standard by the DCSS and may be selected by the
operational controller, e.g. with delayed car operation, EFS etc.
DOB, EDP and LRD commands are processed by the operational controller and may be
disabled in specific modes.
The Door Open Limit (/DOL) output of the DCSS signals correct door opening to the operational controller.
Emergency Door Stop (/EDS) deenergizes the door according to code requirements and will
be connected to the safety chain.
Top of Car Inspection (/TCI) input indicates the inspection mode. In this mode a door command can be entered by the Service Tool.

7.3 Connection to M C S S (Serial Interface)

The (L)MCSS must be set to Door Type = 1 (DO2000/HPDS)

The DCSS and the MCSS are connected via the serial link for the data transmission and by
the discrete /Safe to Open signal /SO.
A 4-pole connector P4, with two twisted pair wires establishes the serial communication
between the MCSS and the DCSS. It satisfies the RS 485 standard for differential data
transmission lines. Via this serial link commands and status information are transmitted.
For detailed information see Interface Control Document MCSS - DCSS.
The /Save to Open (/SO) input is connected to +30V via a 2.2k resistor and the photo coupler on the DCSS. The MCSS has to pull down this input to HL2 to enable a door opening. It
can be enabled only, if the car is stopping in the door zone.
The /NDG input is re-assigned to be connected to an Electronic Door Protector (EDP). The
according output must be able to switch (+30V) to HL2 (=RTN on RS board).
The DO input is re-assigned to be connected to a Light Ray Device LRD. The according
output must be able to switch to +30V (supply of the RS boards).HL2 on P5.8 must be connected to HL2(=RTN of the RS link).
The DOB input is assigned to be connected to the Door Open Button. It is switched to +30V
(supply of the RS boards). HL2 on P5.10 must be connected to HL2 (=RTN of the RS link).
With the Multidrop Serial Link 2*DCSS for front and alternate door and one loadweighing
device can be connected to the serial bus. To avoid an overload of the transmit driver on the
MCSS board the impedance of the receiver of the DCSS can be adapted by setting the parameter Line Terminator = Yes during the Installation run procedure. How the switch must
be set depends on the configuration (see table):

7.4 Connection to a Relay Controller (Interface Box required)

In Modernization applications the DCSS has to communicate with a Relay Controller. For
that special application an additional Interface Box is necessary to service the higher demand of input/outputs and to cover signal levels from 48 to 220V.
There are 6 relay outputs on the Interface board. Each Relay can be programmed by entering a position value. If the door passes this position the corresponding relay will be activated.
The Interface Box is supplied by 230Vac mains.

Interface Description between DCSS and Interface Box

The DCSS has two 110Vac, four 30Vdc inputs and two 30V outputs to communicate with a
Limited Car Board or with a Motion Control SubSystem. For a Relay Controller additional Inputs/Outputs are necessary which are realized by the Interface Box which is controlled by
the DCSS.
All inputs of the Interface Box can cover a voltage range from 48V to 230V and are optically
isolated. They can be driven by AC or DC sources.
The outputs are realized by relay contacts.
For further information see BASIC DATA -Appendix- (GAA24350AA).

7.5 Top of Car Door Operation according to British Standard

To move a door from the top of car without additional tools (SVTOOL) the DCSS can be
commanded by the TDOS switch, located into the TCI box. The TDOS can be switched to
Top of car Door Opening Button (TDOB) for door opening or to Top of car Door Closing
Button (TDCB) for closing.
To enable the Top of Car Inspection operation the parameter 'TCI_with_BS7255', to find
into the Set-Up menu 'OTHER' (SVTOOL key sequence:3-3-3), must be set to '1'.
The connections to the DCSS differ between the serial, discrete and Relay Controller Interfaces (with additional Interface Box).

7.5.1 DCSS with Discrete Interface

To operate the door system from top of the car, the elevator must be set into Inspection
mode (TCI) and the Service Tool must be disconnected. With three discrete signals the door
operator can be controlled. One signal (NDG input) to enable a door movement only in the
door zone and two signals (DOB and /SO) to control the opening and closing of the door.
-

The doorzone signal will be set by the controller and is sent to the DCSS (P5.5)
via the Remote Station.

The door close command (TDCB) is read by the Remote Station, transferred to
the LCB, which set the Door Close Management (DCM) via the RS17. This signal is
read by the DCSS at input P5.4.

The door open command (TDOB) is read directly by the DCSS at DOB input P5.7

The door operator starts moving the door with a delay of 2 seconds with a low speed profile
during Top of Car Inspection.
If no discrete signal is activated, the door system will stay in the shut down mode.
The software of the LCB must be revised to set the NDG output if TCI is set into inspection
and the car is in the door zone.

7.5.2 DCSS with Serial Interface

To operate the DCSS must be configured to British Standard by re-assigning the discrete
inputs. If the TCI is set to Inspection the input 'DOB' generates an "Open" command (TDOB)
and the 'LRD' input will be recognized as a "Close" command (TDCB). Due to the code requirements a door movement from the top of the car without a Service Tool is allowed only if
the car is in the door-zone, recognized by the '/SO'- signal.
The door operator only provides a slow speed (initialize) during Top of Car Inspection.
If no discrete signal is activated, the door system will stay in the shut down mode.

7.6 Emergency Firemen Service

During the first phase of the Emergency Firemen Service (EFS) a door reversal must be disabled, to guarantee that the doors can be closed to drive the car to the EFS floor. Due to the
different kinds of controller interfaces there are different ways to indicated the EFS mode.
- Discrete Interface:
To indicate the EFS mode the input '/SO' at plug P5.4must be pulled down to
HL2 by the Remote Station output 'DCM' (Door Close Management). With this
information the internal Passenger Protection of the DCSS will be disabled.

- Serial Interface:
The door system will be informed of the EFS mode by receiving the respective
door command via the serial link. No additional actions are necessary.

- Relay-Controller Interface:
For Modernization Applications the signal to indicate the EFS mode must be
active high and has to be connected to the Interface Box at pin P6.3 to P6.5 if
the signal voltage is less than 100V or if the signal voltage is higher at P6.4 to
P6.5.
This described input is the Second Profile signal input and can be used either to
drive the door with an other speed profile or to indicate the EFS mode. In this
case the parameter 'EFS_OPERATION_?', to find in the Set_Up-Menu
'OTHER' (SVTOOL-Key-sequence: 3-3-3) must be set to '1', otherwise the EFS
mode will not be detected.
