FewwordsaboutSubmaincircuits
AsubmaincircuitcanbedefinedasacircuitconnecteddirectlyfromthemainLVswitchboardto
asubmaindistributionpanelorarisingmainforfinalconnectionoftheminorcurrentusing
equipment.TheCoderequiresthatthemaximumcopperlossineverysubmaincircuitshouldnot
exceed1.5%ofthetotalactivepowertransmittedalongthecircuitconductorsatrated
circuitcurrent.
Similarapproachcouldbefollowedforsizingconductorasforfeedercircuit.However,assumption
hastobemadeinthedesignforvariouscharacteristicsofthesubmaincircuitincludingdesign
current,expectedharmoniccurrent(THD)inthecircuit,degreeofunbalance,etc.
Alternatively,anenergyefficiencymethodintroducedbytheCodecouldalsobeusedfor
preliminarycablesizing.Thisenergyefficiencymethodforcablesizingrequiresthecalculationof

themaximumallowableconductorresistancebasedonthemaximumcopperlossrequirement
asstipulatedinthecode.
