a. What is your envisioned career path?

Decide what you want to be in life, then focus all your steps, every and each of it, towards that
vision. So I have heard someone told me. Thus, I had thought earnestly about the vision, about how
I see myself when I am old, looking back to the life I have been living. I decide that I want to be a
teacher, an inspiring one. I wanted to have my students feel inspired to learn more after my class, I
want them to feel the joy of learning. I have been blessed to be in such classes in my university, and
thus I decided that I want to be a lecturer. I plan to pursue the post-doctorate education. However, I
want to do that in line with what I can actually contribute to society. I want more people to enjoy the
fruit of my labor. Thus, in between or even during my academic pursuit I want to keep myself downto-earth by doing other activities like volunteering and writing. For now, I am concentrating in
learning more and more about my passions, which are gender studies and East Asia Studies. I also
volunteer in teaching programs, in which I can practice my teaching and communication skills.
Furthermore, I am also assigned as one of the teaching assistant in my major. One thing I want to do
after graduation is to join the Indonesia Teaching (Indonesia Mengajar) program, since that is what
actually sparked the idea within me to be a teacher.
b. How will you benefit from the 2nd SEAMEO Youth Leadership Forum? What do you
think are the actions or activities you could implement based on what you will learn from
the Forum?
My earlier endeavors in leadership made me conclude that I just wasnt cut for a leader. However, I
did not stop trying, and nowadays I realize that I actually have the potentials, I just lack courage and
confidence in myself. My registration for this forum is also my effort to train myself, since the only
way to do that is to get myself out there and learn more. This forum I believe not only can give me
such opportunity, but also expose me to empowering ideas and network I definitely need to be an
inspiring leader.
Furthermore, I believe this forum will also be beneficial in regards with intercultural understanding. I
have been blessed to have the intercultural exchange opportunities, and the lessons and friendship I
gained were priceless. It is possible because I can speak English, and there are still many people here
who cant speak English. For instance, as foreigners come more often to our province, I was told by a
taxi driver that it was difficult to communicate with those foreigners. There are still no english
education for those taxi drivers. It is a pity, since language barriers limit the two sidestourists and
taxi driverto be just buyer-seller relation, not two people from culturally different background.
With AEC starting, the intercultural communication is inevitable. The hope is for the different
societies to see beyond us vs them mindset and form some understanding, and language is one of the
key to realize it. This forum surely will inspire me in regards to this point.
c. Why should you be chosen to participate in the Forum?
Firstly, I have had the opportunities of intercultural exchange. I have lived in South Korea for ten
months and was the Indonesian Representative for Indonesia-China Youth Exchange Programin
which I spent ten days in China. From the two experiences, I concluded that the best exchange
experience is the one that is fluid and society-based. I believe I can contribute to the forum with my
experience.
Secondly, my leadership experience have demonstrated my potentials as a leader. I may not be a
natural born leader with overflowing charisma and confidence, but I have made it my own
commitment to never stop learning especially from my failures and faults. After some disappointing
leadership experiences, I did not stop and give up, and keep challenging myself.
Finally, I have the determination to contribute in society. I am determined to pursue my career for my
visionwhich is to be a down-to-earth inspiring teacher. I am inspired by Teacher Mataki, a fictional
character in one of my favorite book by Emha Ainun Nadjib. Teacher Mataki dedicated his life for
education, not blinded by his own status and stay humble. His character speaks a lot to me, since I

have seen many of people let their status get into their heads and lost their identity along the way. I
still have not contributed concretely to society, since I am still in the middle of finding my own
identity and passions. I have only found some clues; this forum I believe will help me finding more.
