Learning and Teaching Review Committee

Constitution

Purpose

The purpose of the Learning and Teaching Review Committee (LTRC) is to maintain
a strategic overview of developments in learning, teaching and assessment at the
College.

Reporting

Learning and Teaching Review Committee is a sub committee of and reports to


Academic Board.

Terms of Reference

1. To advise and make recommendations to Academic Board on the development


and review of the College’s Learning and Teaching Strategy (including the
annual action plan);
2. To monitor and oversee the implementation of the College’s Learning and
Teaching Strategy (including the annual action plan);
3. To report to Academic Board annually on developments in learning, teaching
and assessment at the College (including progress in the implementation of the
Strategy);
4. To monitor developments in the area of learning, teaching and assessment
nationally including the activities and agendas of external agencies such as the
Higher Education Academy and/or FENTO and to ensure that the College is
engaged with these;
5. To advise on the development of the College’s learning and teaching staff
development programme and monitor its effectiveness;
6. To identify best practice in the area of learning, teaching and assessment
(internally and in peer institutions) and to disseminate this across the College;
7. To develop and promote a common pedagogical framework, culture and
vocabulary suitable to the College’s present and future needs;
8. To support and ensure the development of course learning, teaching and
assessment strategies;
9. To promote a culture of action-based research that informs the development of
learning and teaching strategies at College and course level;
10. To promote awareness in pedagogical practice in relation to issues of widening
participation, inclusivity, work-based learning and employability;
11. To support the ‘creative exploitation of digital technologies’ in learning, teaching
and assessment;
12. To support the development of and review the effectiveness of the personal tutor
system;
13. To support the development of and review the effectiveness of the peer
observation scheme.

Head of Faculty of Design or nominee
Head of Faculty of Communication Media or nominee

Head of Human Resources or nominee
Head of Learning Resource Centre or nominee
Head of Quality

Representative Members:

A member of academic staff nominated by Faculty of Design Committee


A member of academic staff nominated by Faculty of Communication Media
Committee
A student representative nominated by the Student Union

Co options:

The Chair may co–opt:

up to two members of sessional academic staff (chosen in consultation with the


Heads of Faculty);
up to three Heads of service areas within the College (to ensure that appropriate
expertise is available to the Committee and there is an effective relationship with
executive functions relevant to the Committee’s remit);

Additionally, the Chair may co-opt a further member of staff to represent the views of
technical or support functions relevant to the Committee’s remit or the diversity of the
College community more generally.

Quorum Rules

Quorum is 5 members to include the Chair and at least one other member of the Ex
Officio membership. If less than 5 members are present then any actions agreed
shall be subject to the ratification of a quorate meeting.
