Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jesus encounters resistance to his mercy from his indignant neighbors in todays
gospel as he begins his ministry. Sometimes, families can resist members who are
seeking to follow a new direction from God. Families that practice flexibility and
openness are helpful to those seeking Gods calling in their lives.

Mercy is the beating heart of the Gospel

Pope Francis writes: It is

absolutely essential for the Church and for the credibility of her message that she
herself live and testify to mercy. Mercy, he says, is the beating heart of the
Gospel (Misericordiae Vultus). To live mercy, we must rediscover both the spiritual
works of mercy (counsel the doubtful, instruct the ignorant, admonish sinners,
comfort the afflicted, forgive offences, bear patiently those who do us ill, and pray

for the living and the dead), and the corporal works of mercy (feed the hungry, give
drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, welcome the stranger, heal the sick, visit the
imprisoned, and bury the dead). Which spiritual works of mercy might Christ be
calling you to practice? Which corporal works of mercy?
325 Holy Hours were kept with Our Lord in Eucharistic Adoration last week. "If the
Pope himself would give you a special invitation to visit him in the Vatican, this honor
would be nothing in comparison to the honor and dignity that Jesus himself bestows
upon you with the invitation of spending one hour with him in the Blessed Sacrament."
(Pope Paul VI) Let us answer that call, contact Judy Soltis at 330-212-0926 for more
information.
Barberton Area Community Ministries item for the Month of February is Soup. All donations can be

The Declaration of Independence declares our God-given right to life, the
Constitution secures this right for us and our posterity, and the 14 th Amendment
says that no state may deny life to any person without due process of law. As
Christians, we need to pursue legislative and initiative efforts until all human beings
are protected without exception as our governing documents intended, and to elect
legislators who pursue the same goals. Today we are joining with Right to Life of
Northeast Ohio and dozens of area churches in the annual Signature Media
Campaign. Volunteers will be in the back of the church accepting signatures that
will be sent to our legislators to emphasize our beliefs and to collect donations to
support pro-life multimedia education. Thank you for helping us Build a Culture of
Life!
(Insert Graphic 2404-0067.tif) The next Coffee and Donuts will be served Sunday,
February 7 following the 10:30 Mass, hosts will be Larry & Charlotte Smart. Plan to
stop in for a sweet treat before heading home.

Charities. With your help we reach out to people who suffer from personal loss, disabilities,
violence, hunger, and poverty. As the People of God we are one human family, with a bond
that enriches our society and provided grace to overcome every obstacle. We are called to
carry out the teachings of Jesus Christ with mercy, charity, and thanksgiving. How will you
respond? As in the past the in-pew commitment process will take place next weekend
February 6-7.Please consider making a generous pledge to support the ministries and
