Musician, Mathematician, Misfit

OBJECTIVES
General Purpose: To introduce myself
Specific Purpose: To give background to who I am as a person and
where I come from.
Central Idea: Dusty Gallop and who he is.

INTRODUCTION
I.

Im a mathematician, musician, and a misfit. Lightly explain what

each one means to me. Introduce my visual aids.
Music was the first thing that started it all.

BODY
I.

Me and becoming a musician

A. Learning trombone in 6th grade and developing it to what it is
now
1. Mr. Keeler
a. Him educating me in the field of music
b. The drive
2. Learning other instruments and styles of music
a. learning how jazz is played and its unique properties.
b. learning music theory and starting to compose
c. Im going to play a few notes on the trombone here.

Music played a very beneficial role in my schooling, improving my

math by leaps and bounds.
II.

Me and understanding that I am really good at mathematics and

that it started from music.
A. Learning that music and math are closely related and how I can
use it to my advantage.
1.Getting placed 2 years ahead in my math classes.
a. taking 9th grade math in 7th and so forth
b. tutoring in middle school for high school students
2. My love and understanding for math comes from it explaining
how the world works and how I could calculate the things around
me and also how I could fix prices for things and make money

My precise understanding of mathematics leads me to not fitting in

to any groups and this coupled with my sense of humor really left me to fit
into any group but not completely be taken in to any group.

III.

Im a misfit and I dont necessarily fit into any groups.

1. I have never fit into any groups because of my crude sense of

humor and such a young age.
a. I never fit into any groups when I was young because of
my different sense of humor that wasnt supposed to be
developed till later in my life.
b. People never got my jokes and also saw me as an
outcast.
2. My ability to do math at such a high level and also play and
instrument confused people.
a. I was always able to do math and people who couldnt
understand it would often get frustrated with the math and me
for being able to understand it so easily.
b. Being able to play an instrument also confused people
because they saw me as a math guy but never suspected that I
could also be a musician.

I guess you could say Ive always been a musician, mathematician,

and a misfit.

Restate what was said in the intro.

Though I dont fit into any groups or do math at an average pace or
even play regular music but what I can say is that im happy where
im at and wouldnt change it for the world.
