The Fall of Kokabiel

By Kaitlin Whitehead
When God made Earth, there was first only day, but he decided there needed to
be a time of resting for his most loved creations. He made night and sent one of
his angels to paint the night sky with luminescent stars, because with the rules of
everything, in light there is dark, and in dark there is light. Angels are not
supposed to sin, however, God, being a forgiving God he gives three chances.
After the three chances the angel is casted into hell. This is the story of how the
angel of the stars, Kokabiel, became one of the fallen.
Delilah never believed in religion, she thought it was just a way of controlling people,
sometimes for the good, sometimes for the worst. All her life her parents taught her that
God doesnt love people like her anyways. People talk about a loving God, but why
would a loving God hate one of his children? I never did anything wrong, all Ive ever
done was love, but this love is what is apparently so wrong and vile. she would think to
herself in annoyance.
One day, Delilah had enough and stormed out of the house into the chilly, night air to a
field surrounded by green woods. She stood there until she got tired, then she laid on the
soft dewy grass and stared at the stars wishing for the day she could finally be free of her
parents control and terrible words. As she laid there, a shooting star went across the sky.
Oh, a flaming asteroid went by, maybe I should make a wish on it! She said

sarcastically to herself as she drifted into a light slumber.

Kokabiel, being an angel, never sleeps, and being the guardian of the stars she didn't have
much to do so she would spend her free time staring at the mortals just to find some
humor in the human saying "When you stare at the abyss, the abyss stares back at you."
At this time she was watching Delilah. From the time she looked at the stars until the
time she fell asleep. She couldn't stop staring. Delilah seemed to be the most perfect
mortal Kokabiel had ever seen. Black hair and brown eyes, and her skin, it's tan,
normally a horrid combination for a mortal, but Delilah, Delilah wears it perfectly.
Kokabiel was heavily conflicted between love and her loyalty to God. Just before the sun
was to rise she came to Earth, her form was first a star, and when she landed, she took the
form of an Irish woman. She walked through the woods, her essence illuminating her
path and white dress flowing behind her, until she came to the field where Delilah lays
sleeping. She knows by coming here she will never return to Heaven. She's already in too
deep.
Delilah wakes up, as she opens her eyes she sees, it's now dawn and she's been sleeping
for a while now. She knows she can never go home after disrespecting her parents like
that.
She gets up to heading to the forest, as she looks up she sees a beautiful, assumably holy
and royal woman. Her eyes were steal; her hair a fiery, orange mess; her skin pale as milk
splotched with milk chocolate; the only color on her skin were the rosy pink cheeks. She
couldn't look away and she didn't have to, it seemed the woman was staring back at her

with a sweet look on her face and was walking towards her. Maybe shes just being nice
to a peasant. Ive never known of sweet royalty she thinks to herself.
She is even more beautiful up close Kokabiel thinks to herself as she walks closer.
Delilah didnt know what to say, all she did was curtsy, but she didnt have to because
Kokabiel was confident enough for the both of them.
Why do you bow? Kokabiel said confused.
I thought you were royalty, madame. Delilah replied.
Kokabiel smiled a warm smile, How sweet, but I am not royalty, but a servant. A servant
of God. I am Kokabiel, painter of the sky and guardian of the stars.
Delilah laughed and said, You most definitely must be an angel, in a sarcastic, yet
complementary way And my name is Delilah.
I already knew your name, its written in the stars. Kokabiel said.
Delilah smiled at her kind words and sarcastically in a flirty way replied, Oh really, Id
like to see that.
As you wish. Kokabiel moved her hands in a circular motion towards the heavens and
the stars appeared, she illuminated Delilahs name. As she revealed Delilahs name,
lightning struck behind the forest. Kokabiel knew God disapproved; the lightening
striking was Gods way of giving her a strike, and as it goes, three strikes and you fall.
Delilah stood there shocked as she read her name in the stars, she looked back down at
Kokabiel staring at her, and took a step back and fell to the ground.
What are you?! Delilah exclaimed in terror.

I just told you, I am an angel. Painter of the stars and guardian of the stars. Do not be
frightened, I dont mean you any harm. Kokabiel said reassuringly.
The sound of Kokabiels voice was soothing and calmed Delilahs fears, but Delilah was
upset by the proof that God was real.
Why are you here? Delilah said sadly, God doesnt love people like me.
I am here for you, because I love you. Kokabiel answered, And people like you, what
do you mean?
Delilah was confused, then she realized that angels have no definite sex but can choose a
gender for Earthly missions. After a brief moment of thought she said People who love
the same sex and cannot be changed. I believe I love you too, I could not keep my eyes
off you.
Silly girl, God loves all, all you have to do is have faith and pray and you will be saved.
Kokabiel replied with a smile and put her hand.
Delilah smiled back and took Kokabiels hand.
I have something to show you. Kokabiel said leading her to the center of the field.
Kokabiel walked around Delilah with her hand out and made a dome around them.
Delilah and Kokabiel were surrounded by stars.
This is beautiful! Delilah said with great passion.
Not only beautiful, but informative. Kokabiel replied with a smirk on her face, You
see when I painted the sky I made it to mean something about every individual. When
you are born there are certain constellations in the night sky, those constellations will tell
you what you will be like and how other constellations will affect you for the rest of your

life She continued educating Delilah on everything about the stars. Once she finished
a lightening bolt was off in the distance, but even closer than the last. Delilah noticed this
and asked Kokabiel about it.
I must not tell you, its between God and I. Kokabiel replied.
Another strike, she thought. She knew she was destined to fall. I will save the last one for
her, she thought.
She waved her hand again and made the dome of stars disappeared and they were back in
the field. Kokabiel sensed Gods anger and knew if she went back to heaven shed be
punished for eternity. She made the decision that would change her forever. She kissed
Delilah. The final lightening bolt struck, this time on her directly. Delilah stepped back in
horror as Kokabiel began to levitate. Her wings suddenly stretched out and she burst into
flames. Her skin was charred; her hair and feathers to ashes; her eyes turned to black. She
levitated a few feet higher and dropped at an barely visible speed, clawing her way down
to the depths of hell.
Delilah contemplated killing herself, but instead decided to spite God and teach every
mortal she could about about astrology and the magics that go with it and Kokabiel did
the same. Delilah never loved again and on her deathbed, instead of letting God take her,
she slit her throat casting her immediately into hell.
In hell Delilah was chained, suspended in air forced to watch her lover with another for
eternity.
