Over the last decades, many countries have embarked on major curriculum and
pedagogical reforms to meet the needs and goals of 21st century, often with a keen focus
on ways of integrating ICT into classroom practices. Within this global context, the
pedagogy used by teachers is consistently seen as the crucial variable for improving
learning outcomes and is critical in any reform to improve quality (UNESCO, 2005:
152). The rapid growth of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), on the
other hand, has created a huge challenge for countries and raised questions about the
effectiveness and impact of curricula, classroom pedagogy and technological applications
on classroom practices. Global implementations, however, have not always been as
successful as hoped, and evidence suggests that a wide gap exists between the expected
goals of curriculum reforms and actual progress achieved in classrooms, schools and
teachers practices (Dembele and Lefoka, 2007, Chisholm and Leyendecker, 2008, World
Bank, 2008).
The seminar aims to encourage dialogue between Moroccan and American researchers
and practitioners from different disciplinary approaches in order to promote further
enquiry into issues related to curriculum development, pedagogy and ICT integration.
The seminar also aims to broaden international field experiences and curriculum
development, technology integration, and cross cultural communication for better global
competency.
