MIDWIFE ESSAY
Midwife is a central element of Indonesia's strategy to improve maternal
and child health and family planning services.
Midwives in the public sector are employed as permanent civil servants
(PNS), and through contracts with the central, provincial and district governments
and with health facilities; they work in hospitals, health centers, auxiliary health
centers and village midwife posts. Midwives are also found in the private sector in
hospitals, maternity hospitals, maternity clinics, treatment clinics (balai
pengobatan) and in private practice on their own account. Public sector midwives
have private practice rights and most also engage in private practice after formal
work hours.
In 2015 , Indonesia along with nine other ASEAN countries have agreed
agreement ASEAN Economic Community ( AEC ) or the ASEAN Economic
Community ( AEC ) . In the application of MEA 2015 , one of the professions that
will face the ASEAN competition is a midwife . Ready midwife facing MEA ?
Asean Economic Community is not only open the flow of goods or services , but
also the labor market professionals, such as doctors , lawyers , accountants ,
midwives and others. So as midwives we should improve our skill to compete
with foreign labour.
Midwife profession is a profession that is very risky and pressure . A midwife has
the authority to help the patient during pregnancy is normal and there was no
indication of complications . But there are always cases of post-birth pregnancies
that have a huge risk in handling. It is not at risk of an OBGYN physician ,
despite facing the same object . Due to the limits of authority and responsibilities
of different doctors and midwives . Because it is not equal midwives with doctors
in sciences degree . In addition , as befits the medical profession , the profession
midwife also value-laden service . Until it took full concentration in service . For
example , when it decided to open a practice , clinic door must be open at all times
. Standby 24 hours a day visited patients and mothers who give birth . Because the
birth process often does not know the time . Whenever could happen , no matter at
dawn , the time when most people take a rest.
As midwives we have to face different kinds of people , to meet the
needs of our patients are different, we need to address each patient in a different
way . in accordance with the character , financial capacity , and their
expectations . not seldom our profession collide with the rules of customs, religion

, and customs of the local people . but we must deal with it in a professional
manner.
