fast reading by skimming
and scanning the text within
2 minutes.

Student Activity
1. Students get and read the
dialogue given.

1. Dialogue text
(Appendix A)

2. Students identify and read

out the amount of ingredients
based on the text.

2. Pictures of different
amount of
ingredients

To create students
awareness of the
target vocabulary
items by having
them to select and
read out the
appropriate amount
of ingredients
mentioned.

to read out the highlighted
amount of ingredients in the
text.

on their selected ingredients
after they have completed
the task.

3. Students listen to teachers

comment on their selected
ingredients.

Presentation

1. Teacher sums up the

quantifier phrases given by
students and add in those
unmentioned quantifier
phrases (if any)

1. Students pay attention to the

quantifiers listed.

(5 mins)

Rationale:
(i) To increase
students ability in
identifying quantifier
phrases.
(ii) To induce and
enhance students
concept of quantifiers
and enhance their
understanding on
similarities and
differences of
the uses of
respective
quantifiers.

Teaching Materials

2. Teacher lists down the

quantifiers on whiteboard.

2. Students categorise the

quantifiers based on their uses

the similarities and differences
of those quantifiers.

1. Dialogue text
(Appendix A)

4. After that, teacher

explains the meaning of
those quantifiers and then
compares and contrasts the
quantifiers used in
countable and uncountable
nouns by using the
examples found in the text.
Eg, the difference of a
little and a few
2

quantifiers for the each of
the 5 sentences within 2
minutes.

Individual work:
2.Students listen to the
instruction and ready to do the
worksheet.

3. Teacher discusses the

answers with the students
and ready to clear their
doubts (if any).

3.Students read out their

answers during discussion and

students
cooperation and
communication in
completing task.

Esther: Alright, lets start putting everything together! Get the toasted breads, spread a
little butter on it. Put chicken fillets, add a few sliced tomatoes and cucumbers
and then sprinkle some pepper and salt. You may add some sauce according
to your preference.
Zu Den: Wait! How about the fruits salad?
Esther: Ermm..I don't think we can make it as there are few apples left in the refrigerator.
