HILLTOP HOODS have announced their special recording project, Drinking From The Sun, Walking Under Stars Restrung.
Recorded 2 years apart but as companion pieces, the project ties together the bands two previous albums, Walking Under
Stars and Drinking From The Sun. Featuring a selection of tracks from each album, the songs have been rerecorded, remixed,
and restructured with the 32-piece Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, plus the 20 piece Adelaide Chamber Singers Choir.
Composer Jamie Messenger handled the orchestral arrangements on the album, with the whole project coming together under
the guidance of the HILLTOP HOODS and NZ conductor Hamish McKeich.
The band has also unveiled a video trailer showing behind the scenes of the recording and the bands idea behind this special

It was Baker, Bruce and Clapton who demonstrated that

harmonically and structurally what was dismissed as rock'n'roll
could be every bit as complex as any contemporary, so-called
classical, music. I believe that what still gives the film its power is
partly a result of the circumstances in which it was made. It's
easy to forget how primitive recording equipment was in 1968. It
had only been a year since I had seen the very first colour video
recorder at the BBC, and editing videotape was at best
hazardous. So what you see in the film, apart from the
interviews, was all 'live'. There is not a single edit anywhere. Of
course it's rough; raw would be a better word. It's often clumsy
and just plain wrong. But I think it still has the extraordinary
energy of the occasion. Although you would expect me to say
this, I don't think I've seen another recording of a concert in
which the atmosphere is so exactly as it was on the night. Two
footnotes. Clapton later told me that the main reason the group
split up was because "the music was not honest." I've always
thought it was through sheer exhaustion. In their brief two-and-ahalf year existence, Cream played over 300 gigs, traveling night
after night in Europe and the States.
During the filming of Beware Mr Baker, Ginger admitted that he
had quite frequently wanted to throttle Jack. "But hey," he told
me, "I loved the bastard." Jack was held in awe, especially by
Ginger and Eric. More importantly, he was also held in enormous
affection by those who knew him, including me. The film was
originally commissioned by the BBC for its 'Omnibus' arts slot.
Cream were then thought worthy of consideration alongside

In November 1971, Ginger Baker wanted to set up a recording

studio in Lagos, then the capital of Nigeria. He was among the
first great musicians to realise the potential of African music. He
decided also that it might be an invaluable musical experience if
he travelled to Nigeria overland. Unfortunately, this involved
crossing the Sahara Desert. Mad? Well, crazy - but that was
what was so endearing both about the man and the musician. He
bought a Range Rover - one of the first ever models - and it fell
to me (because of my relationship with CREAM) to film this
odyssey. And the music of Nigeria, when we finally gotthere, was
a revelation. This was before the time of the oil boom and a
succession of corrupt governments; the music pulsated with
reckless freedom, from the African talking-drummers of
Oshogbo, to a visit to the eastern city of Calabar where Ginger's
friend (the then unknown) Fela Ransome-Kuti performed for us
with devastating power. I remember filming Kuti in a stadium
filled with several hundred jiving Africans. Ginger & I, his driver
and my cameraman were the only white faces. Scary. But not so
scary as our nights in a Calabar hotel (well, 'hotel' is a bit of an
exaggeration). The walls of our room, not to mention the seedy
mattress on the floor, were covered black with mosquitoes. I
remember Ginger saying that if we survived this, we could
survive anything. I'm glad he did, and the film pays tribute to his
indomitable spirit and to his extraordinary musicianship.

A Time For Love is a wonderful snapshot of this rapidly

developing artist. There are many highlights on this recording.
One of them is "On A Misty Night", an elegant song written by
Tadd Dameron. It's a perfect composition for Erena and the
group. She tips her hat to Sonny Stitt weaving dynamic lines into
the fabric of the song. The solos on this tune are wonderful from
everyone in this strong crew of first-rate musicians. Listen to
Lewis Nash's ride cymbal throughout this track and you will
understand why he is considered one of the best! The title track
on A Time For Love is a superb song that brings out the best
playing in everyone. I love David Hazeltine's melodic musical
statement on the tune. Erena comes through with her passionate
alto melting into the core of the song, grooving hard throughout.
"88" is a heartfelt, upbeat song written for Yasohachi "88" Itoh. In
his lifetime he produced recordings for Art Farmer, Roy Haynes,
Clark Terry, Count Basie, Hank Jones, Tony Williams, Abbey
Lincoln, Terumasa Hino, and many more. Yasohachi's love for
jazz and ear for excellent talent moved him to record and
produce Erena first three records. He surrounded her with some
of the world's best jazz musicians - including Kenny Barron,
Christian McBride, Jimmy Cobb, and Ron Carter - and
introduced the world to Erena Terakubo in grand fashion! If A

THE NEW BLACK worked with producer and sound engineer

Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Heaven Shall Burn, Epica, U.D.O.) and
recorded in his studio in Ribe, Denmark.
In consequence: enviably thick guitar sounds, the ballsy drums,
boldly anthemic choruses and predominantly highlighted
impressive vocals by Fludid this is what makes the difference.
They released three records since 2009, (The New Black, II:
Better In Black, III: Cut Loose), played Wacken and Rock am
Ring and shared stages with the likes of AC/DC, Black Label
Society and Alter Bridge
So this time for real. For these Heavy Rockers it means: Working
their asses off with a real producer in a real studio. Harder than
ever. We've reached a limit after self-producing our first three
albums, guitarist Christof Leim explains. At some point you just
go in circles, sound wise and with the songwriting. The New
Black however did not ask just any producer for the sake of it.
They recorded with Danish icon Jacob Hansen, a proven master
of kick ass Rock, the guy Volbeat committed to ever since their
first album. Naturally, The New Black and a producer like that get
along like a house on fire. The cooperation was totally worth it,
main songwriter Fabian Schwarz agrees. They're still our songs,
but they're better and they sound better, too. At some point, you
lose focus, you are too close. Some tracks are two years in the
making or have been played live already which makes you focus
on your own parts naturally.

When Pearl Jam released their debut album Ten on 27th August
1991, it heralded a new era for alternative music in the US
mainstream. Although it took almost 18 months for the record to
reach its highest Billboard placing, ultimately peaking at number
two, it ensured that Pearl Jam remained an unmistakable
presence in the upper regions of the charts for the long term. The
band toured extensively in support of Ten, and on the 28th
March 1992 they played the renowned Cabaret Metro in
Chicago. The Metro's fairly intimate surroundings help to
generate a dynamic atmosphere, as can be witnessed to full
effect on this CD, as the band work through all but one of the
cuts from Ten. Five bonus cuts are also included from various
television broadcasts made throughout 1992, including a
delicious version of The Who's 'Baba O 'Riley'.
Organised to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the original

Woodstock festival of 1969, Woodstock '94 (or 'Mudstock' as it
was later sometimes referred to) was promoted as "2 More Days
of Peace and Music." The poster used to promote the first
concert was revised to feature two birds perched on a guitar
neck, instead of the original single bird design. The 1994 concert
was scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, August 13 and 14, with
a third day (Friday, August 12) added later. The weather was
rainy that weekend, and by Saturday much of the field had
turned into mud. The event took place on Winston Farm in
Saugerties, New York, about 100 miles north of New York City.
The site is 10 miles from Woodstock, New York and it was
originally proposed as the location for the 1969 concert. The
crowd was estimated at 350,000.

The Residents were in Europe touring their ICKY FLIX show

when the bombing of the World Trade center took place
September 11, 2001. Stunned, The Residents had no choice but
to continue the tour as planes all over the world were grounded.
Their only release came in the form of writing a new album on
those long hours on the bus and in hotel rooms between shows.
The album was one of loss and of helplessness. Sad weariness
with the follies of human nature. This melancholy has always
been present in The Residents work but never before this
tangible. Instead of being lost to anger, they have created some
of the most bittersweet and melodic music of their career.

The core of the film is a joint concert appearance by Boozoo Chavis
and Beau Jocque, which was billed as the event that would
determine zydeco's future king, along with efforts by the Louisiana
Hall of Fame to crown Boozoo Chavis in accordance with the
reputed final wishes of Rockin' Dopsie. Also shown performing in the
film are respected bandleader John Delafose and the talented
younger artist Nathan Williams of Nathan and the Zydeco Cha Chas.
But the film is as much about storytelling as it is about performance,
and the tall tales come not only from musicians but also from
competing nightclub owners Kerman Richard and Sid Williams (older
brother of Nathan), from zydeco deejay Lester Thibeaux, from
zydeco record store owner Irene Hebert (sister of Lester), from
Zydeco Association heads Wilbert Guillory and Paul Scott, and from
Louisiana Hall of Fame founder Lou Gabus. Appropriately enough,
the film's climax documents the actual crowning of a new zydeco
king, though that crowning, too, was immediately contested, and Mr.
Delafose, Mr. Jocque, and Mr. Chavis all passed away much too
soon afterwards. In the end, we are left with a stunning record of the
talented musicians and colorful characters who made up zydeco's
true Golden Era.
"In his new film, RHYTHM 'N' BAYOUS, Mr. Mugge returns to
the South (this time to Louisiana) to compile a singing dictionary
of the state's roots music styles and assorted hybrids, from the
blues to 'swamp pop' to the fusion of Cajun, Creole and rock 'n'
roll known as zydeco. Part musical travelogue, part anthology,
part archival document, RHYTHM 'N' BAYOUS is a rambling
journey loosely divided into four sections. Begun as the official
chronicle of a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame bus tour...it turns into a
more informal, out-of-the-way journey to blues and zydeco clubs,
gospel churches and radio stations, and musical family
gatherings in backwater bayous. A number of the performances
are as rough-hewn as the tiny clubs in which they are filmed. But
RHYTHM 'N' BAYOUS is finally not about being polished. It's
about the organic process by which a culture expresses itself
though music and the hybrids that evolve naturally when these
cultures begin to mingle. That, after all, is how rock 'n' roll was

WITH THE RISE in the early1980s American heavy

metal scene, bands were forming from coast to
coast, with California being the epicentre of the
movement. It was also the home of Metal Blade
Records, a fiercely pro-active active independent
label dedicated to unearthing the best of the breed.
Amongst their discoveries were Slayer, Metallica,
Metal Church, Armored Saint and Malice.
A five piece of considerable fire power and force,
Malice exploded onto the scene with lightning effect,
winning critical plaudits for their demos and tracks
on Metal Blades Metal Massacre 1 album, and a
dedicated following amongst metal starved fans. All
this energy and excitement led to a major label deal,
with label giants Atlantic Records providing the
launching pad for their debut album, co-produced by
Ashley Howe (Ted Nugent, Uriah Heep) and Michael
Wagener (Dokken, Mtley Cre, Accept).
THEY SAY THAT imitation is the sincerest

form of flattery. In the case of Rhino Bucket
that could almost be true, with their
uncompromising brand of riff-rock making
them a close second cousin to Bon Scott era
AC/DC. Not that they are mere impersonators
of the great Australian rockers, far from it. For
Rhino Bucket it's all about the cut and thrust of
rock at its most ferocious and untamed.
Formed in Los Angeles during the closing
years of the 1980s, Rhino Bucket stuck out like
a sore thumb by daring to ignore makeup and
hairspray, adopting instead a rough-hewn look
and approach, a style that set them apart from
the baying hordes looking to out glam each
other. This was a band content to steer clear
of the usual clichs and focus instead on killer
riffs and uncompromising energy.
MAKE NO MISTAKE, Rhino Bucket attracted

several antagonists keen to shoot em down
and pull them over the coals for resembling
prime era AC/DC. Of course, right thinking
individuals having heard the bands music,
instantly dismissed the complaints as
irrelevant. Sure, Rhino Bucket certainly took a
good look at the kings of boogie, but they were
walking their own path to enlightenment,
making for compelling listening.
Indeed, such was the positive reaction to the
album that the band actually achieved two
turntable hits, helping to set the scene for this,
their second, album.

The Canadian band SARASIN was originally formed in the 80's

when their first EP "Lay down your guns" was released. Only
guitarist Greg Boileau remains from the bands original line-up.
Long time bass player and other founding member Rob Grant
died after a battle with cancer in 2012, the new SARASIN album
is dedicated to him. The band convinces with heavy riffs and
deep feelings. Please check out the songs "The Hammer" and
"Soul in Vain" to get an impression. Vocalist Michael Wilson is
sometimes reminiscent to OZZY OSBOURNE which is to the
bands advantage. Fine melodic songs with great choruses will
convince old and new fans of classic Heavy Metal!
In 1976, with six albums and eight years after being founded, the
German Krautrock legend Guru Guru was the first German band
to be invited to play at Rockpalast.

Don and Karen (McCullough) Peris formed the innocence

mission with school friend and bassist Mike Bitts while the three
were students at the Catholic high school in their hometown,
Lancaster Pa, where they still live. Since the late 90s, they've

In quiet, understated celebration of their 10th anniversary, The

Unthanks release a 76 minute CD of rarities, exclusive live
tracks, demos and outtakes. Achive Treasures (2005-2015)
could be described as a fan album and really illustrates how free
and uninhibited the musical philosophy of The Unthanks has
been over 10 years. There is no greater contrast on the record
than listening to snapshots of childhood folk clubs recordings,
next to a previously unreleased live version of Robert Wyatt s
Alifib/Alifie, illustrating a bravery and willingness to weather
judgement from listeners and critics with musical vocabulary and
listening habits less expansive, but ultimately a readiness to
believe in the universality of music and the open-mindedness of
their audience. Organised on the record in sections, the album
features never-before-heard Winterset recordings, live
recordings of the 10 piece Unthanks from Newcastle s Tyne
Theatre, radio session tracks, childhood folk-club snapshots, a
new Christmas single, a very different work-in-progress version

This soundtrack to Kevin Allen's adaptation of Dylan Thomas's

'Under Milk Wood' features the entire film with all the dialogue
and Rhys Ifans first voice narration, and includes contributions
from many musicians, in particular the composer Mark Thomas
whose work underpins everything. Film critic Geoffrey McNab
said, 'This is a film that you can watch with your eyes shut and
still enjoy'.
The OST features Charlotte Church, who stars in the film, and
works from Verdi, Chopin, Elgar J.S. Bach and more Mark
Thomas and Kevin Allen developed a style for the featured music
in keeping with the surreal, humorous and erotically charged
scenarios. Certain songs and music cues needed to be tailored
during filming and Mark was often required to be on set to adapt
set pieces and to rehearse cast members. This 87 minute
Original Sound Track of 'Under Milk Wood' is a treat for all fans
of Dylan Thomas and indeed the arts of both film making and
music.

During the latter half of 2014, music filmmaker Robert Mugge

and his partner Diana Zelman worked with executives Roger
LaMay and Bruce Warren of Philadelphia public radio station
WXPN and their "World Cafe" host and producer David Dye to
document and assist WXPN's exploration of the Creole culture of
Southwest Louisiana through its yearlong Zydeco Crossroads
project. The film portion of the project documented concerts by
zydeco artists C.J. Chenier and Rosie Ledet in the Philadelphia
area and followed XPN staff to Lafayette, Louisiana where
concerts were staged featuring additional top zydeco artists
Buckwheat Zydeco, Nathan Williams, Chubby Carrier, Rockin'
Dopsie, Jr., Major Handy, Creole United, Soul Creole, Lil' Nate
Williams, Chris Ardoin, and Corey Arceneaux, along with
collaborating Mississippi blues artist Vasti Jackson. Also
documented were David Dye's interviews with most of the key
performing artists and with zydeco club owner Sid Williams,
zydeco historian Michael Tisserand, and zydeco deejay Herman
Fuselier of Lafayette public radio station KRVS. These interviews
examine the history of music created by Southwest Louisiana
Creoles, who are generally defined as people of mixed African,
French, Spanish, and Native American descent, but especially
African and French.

This concert at The Lokerse Festival in the Summer of 2003 is a

fine example of the power the band possessed. Heavy and slow,
Killing Joke (at least early in their career) was a quasi-metal
band dancing to a tune of doom and gloom. They eventually
became less heavy and more arty (the latter seems almost
impossible) -- more danceable even -- but early on they made
some urgent slabs of molten dynamite that oozed with the power
of thick guitars, thudding drums, and over-the-top singing.
Formed in late 1978, the group's sessions for John Peel's highlyinfluential BBC Radio shows were ecstatically received and by
the end of 1979 they had signed with Island Records, who
allowed them to set up their own label, Malicious Damage. They
amassed a following of both punk and disco fans with hardedged but danceable singles like "Psyche" and "Follow the
Leader."
