The path
Young people, have you noticed that we live in a day where there is very little trust? Im sure you have.
The idea that a mans word is his bond is, in many cases, a thing of the past. The notion that two people
can agree on something and simply ratify the deal by a handshake is laughed at by many. The result?
Documents written with legalese covering every imaginable possibility. Someones saying just trust me
often leads to even more suspicion.
So, who can you trust? You have two options when it comes to your ultimate confidence. You can place
it in human beings or you can put your ultimate trust in God. Jeremiah made some very interesting
statements about where we place our trust. He basically says that when we trust in humanity we are going
to be disappointed but when we trust in God were going to be blessed.
Friends, coaches, teachers, and yes, youth ministers, can all be great assets, but your ultimate hope
should rest in this truth: God knows your heart. God, and God alone, explores the heart, probes your
mind, and knows your thoughts. Trust in Him today!
This is what the Lord says: The man who trusts in mankind, who makes human flesh his strength and
turns his heart from the Lord is cursed. He will be like a juniper in the Arabah; he cannot see when good
comes but dwells in the parches places in the wilderness, in a salt land where no one lives. The man who
trusts in the Lord, whose confidence indeed is the Lord, is blessed. He will be like a tree planted by water:
it sends its roots out toward a stream, it doesnt fear when heat comes, and its foliage remains green. It will
not worry in a year of drought or cease producing fruit. The heart is more deceitful than anything else, and
incurable who can understand it? I, Yahweh, examine the mind, I test the heart to give each according to
his way, according to what his actions deserve. (Jeremiah 17:5-10)
