CHAPTER I
PREFACE
I.1
BACKGROUND
Buildings are now an essential part of a community. With increasing
urbanization and limited land, building are needed more than ever. Today, a
building is not only used for one purpose, it is used for many purposes, house,
offices, and malls in the same building. Because of this, building technology
and application of green buildings is sought after because increasing energy
prices means the need for increasing energy savings. Increasing demand of
building technology means increasing demand for a mechanical engineer that
focuses on building technology so it is necessary for an undergraduate
engineer to be able to feel the professional world outside of the educational
world and also to ensure the readiness of the soon to be engineer when facing
the professional world.
With job-training, a college student can get a chance to observe,
compare, and applied theories they got in the University. Also, they could have
more knowledge, and help to solve a problem in industry while also learning
from the professionals on the job. On the other hand, for a company, jobtraining could be an event to search for new human resources and an event to
evaluate the quality of undergraduate student.
PT. Arnan Pratama Consultants is a well established and independent
consulting engineering firm that focuses on mechanical and electrical field in a
building and should as well attract a lot of students for the on job training. We
as students of Universitas Indonesia have a basic knowledge of HVAC systems,
safety, and building utility system that is widely used in the scope of
mechanical and electrical of a building. We are very interested in joining PT.
Arnan Pratama on job training to further learn the practice of these subject.
