2. The diameter of a pipe at the section 1-1 and 2-2 (figure 2) are
200 mm and 300 mm respectively. If the velocity of water
flowing through the pipe at section 1-1 is 4 m/s. Find: (CLO 2)
i)
Amount of water discharge through the pipe.
ii)
ii) velocity of water at section 2-2

3. Benzene with a mass density of 879 kg/m3 flows through a 150


mm diameter pipe at a mean velocity of 5 m/s. Find ; (CLO 2)

4. The raw oil flows through a pipe of diameter 40 mm and
entered a pipe of diameter 25 mm. The volume flow rate is
3.75 liter/s. Calculate the flow velocity of both pipe and the

density of raw oil if the mass flow rate is 3.23 kg/s. (CLO 2)

5. Oil flows through a pipe at a velocity of 1.6 m/s. The diameter
of the pipe is 8 cm. Calculate discharge and mass flowrate of

6. Oil flows through a pipe 1 and split into two pipes are 2 and 3
as show in figure below. The following information is given ;

Diameter pipe 2 = 200 mm
Specific gravity, Soil = 0.86
Calculate ;

Discharge and mass flow rate of oil at pipe 1 if
velocity is 1.25 m/s
ii.
Diameter pipe 3 if velocity at pipe 2 is 2.0 m/s and a
pipe 3 is 3.5 m/s.

7. An inclined pipe is used to supply water as shown above. The


cross section area of pipe at entrance and exit are 0.05 m2 and
0.005 m2 respectively. The water pressure at entrance is 686.7

kN/m2. If the velocity at the entrance is 1.5 m/s, determine the


pressure at exit; (CLO 2)

8. Given that a diameter entrance ( 65 mm), diameter of throat
( 26 mm) in figure below, coefficients of discharge Cd = 0.97,
specific density = 898 kg/m3 and the height of the mercury in
U tube (71 mm). Find the actual flow rate Q s in hours? (CLO 2)

9. A horizontal venture meter measure the flow of oil of specific


gravity 0.9 in a 75 mm diameter pipe line. If the difference of
pressure between the full bore (entrance) and the throat
tapping is 35 kN.m2 and the area ratio, m is 4, calculate the
rate of flow assuming a coefficient of discharge is 0.97. (CLO 2)

A pipe sloping at an angle of 45 o (figure below) to the
horizontal narrowing of the diameter d1 = 200 mm to a
diameter d2 = 100 mm along the pipe L1 = 2 m, with a specific
density of 0.9 oil flow in pipelines with a velocity of v 1 = 2 m/s
at the end. Find the pressure difference across the pipe 2 m
long and the difference in mercury levels, x is shown by the
mercury manometer by neglecting any energy loss. Given that
specific density mercury is 13.6 ( CLO 2)
