produced when the ground becomes unstable.
On average the landslides kill more than 8.000 people every year around the world.
Causes: The type of rocks and soils
The intensity of the rains
The orientation of fractures or cracks in the earth
Seismic activity
Human activity
Erosion by human and natural activity*: Natural erosion
Water erosion
Wind erosion
Anthropic erosion
* The erosion is the degradation and transport of soil or rock which produce different
processes on the surface of the Earth.

Slippage---------------- Rotational slippage
Translational slippage
Flows-------------- Earthflows

The tragedy in the dam of Vajont.
It was a hydroelectric project.

The disaster occurs about on ten and a half at night.

The engineers did calculations with many mistakes.
Water had seeped into the side of Mount Toc and the ground Began to separate and fall
into the water.
In the last 2 years the water level was raised and reduced about three times to control the
risk of landslide.
The engineers thought that they could to control the nature how they wanted but they
were wrong again.
They planned to leave a space in the dam about 25 meters for contain the water, when the
land fell within the dam.
One of the things that caused the disaster was a layer of clay.
The unstable part was made by a group of rocks separated from each other.
The real wave had 250 meters high.
This disaster kills 2000 people and destroyed the whole town of Longarone and other
small villas.
