TEACHING EXPERIENCE
In my first class, I did not teach the students their text book. Instead, I conducted an interactive session with
the students and asked each one of them to do a brief introduction in English. They were also interested to
know about me and I told them about the training and my course. These interactive sessions helped me to
reduce my nervousness and I started teaching them grammar lessons afterwards.
From the next day onwards, I started to teach them chapters from their text books which were assigned to
me. The portions I taught in standard five was The Tree which is a biography about the nature activist Julia
Butterfly Hill and a story titled as Chubari the Horse. In standard seven I taught the third unit Man and
Media from their text. It dealt with the growth that happened in the communication field through computer,
radio and newspaper. Then I taught them a poem of Eleanor Farjeon titled as Books. After finishing the
poem, I taught them a story titled as Polya which is an interesting story about an illiterate woman. The
story aims to tell us the importance of language. It took me some time to convey the meaning of the passage
clearly to the students. Day by day teaching became easier to me. I chose the method of reading out the
portion to be taught, and then explaining it with its meaning. I gave them the meanings of difficult words and
conducted dictations based on them. I made the students read the portion every day after the class, this way
more students improved in their reading skills. I also made them explain the portions themselves. This
helped me know whether my teaching was effective or not.
When I got continuous periods in a class I engaged them in games like dumb charades by dividing the class
into groups of boys and girls. Points were also given to them to increase their interest in the game. I realized
that these games made my classes interesting to the students.
The main problem I faced at school was that most of the students did not know how to read, not even the
most common words in English. I taught them the right pronunciation of the words. I also started giving
dictations of hard words.

STAFF ROOM EXPERIENCES

From the first day onwards there were many teachers who helped me and guided me throughout my training
period in the school. My old teachers were very happy to see me, a former student of the school as a trainee
teacher. In the staff room I had the privilege to sit along with the teachers who taught me. They gave me a lot
of advice on improving my teaching skills. This experience gave me an insight into the lives of teachers.

OTHER ACTIVITIES
I accompanied the students in their youth festival, study tour and sport meet. It was a great experience for me
as I could see the talents of many students who have the potential to reach great heights in the area of their
expertise. It also helped me get more attached to the students and teachers.
Their term exam started on 15th of December, the last day of my internship. I happened to be an invigilator
for 6A students. It was yet another opportunity for me to prove how I could manage the class.
SPORTS MEET:
I was made to accompany the students to the sports meet held at Nehru stadium on 5th of December. For me
it was a great responsibility. Even though it was hard to control the younger students, it was a nice
experience taking them outside the school compound. I gave the students instructions for march-past which
was to be followed on that day. There my main duty was to control students and take them to the starting
point when they announce their number.
STUDY TOUR:
During my training, I got a chance to accompany the fourth standard students in their study tour to Neendor
Park on 11th of December. This helped me to get more close to the kids. We saw so many things there. Along
with the rearing of a variety of animals, fishes and birds, the place had a landscaped garden, swings for kids,
a plant nursery, an agricultural museum that archives old and traditional farming implements and household
objects. There was an open air cafeteria too. We got back to school by evening.

YOUTH FESTIVAL:
During my training, I got a chance to be a part of the Sub-district Youth Festival
conducted in Viswabharathi S.N. Higher Secondary School, Njeezhoor. The students
were very happy to know that I was assisting them. It was not easy because I had to
run from one stage to another for collecting the participants card and other materials.
In the Youth Festival, our school came out as the overall champion.

FEEDBACK
In the last one week, I had made them revise not only the portion I took for them, but also the other portions
for their upcoming term examinations. I conducted several tests including dictations. Teachers who were not
able to go and take classes gave their hours to me. They thanked for my willingness to take the class and
great full me as reliable. In the test paper that I conducted based on the portions I taught everyone has scored
really good marks and few second full marks. That gave me a clear idea about how well students followed
my class. Since it was time for me to leave, I have been taking my leave from my dearest students. Though it
was for only a period of one month, I was really attached to all the students of all the classes and the students
were also upset to know that I will not be in the school from 15th December. All of them appreciated my
teaching.

CONCLUSION
The On the job training was completed on 15th December, 2014. As its final step, I got the final reports from
the headmistress Mrs. Anna P.J and the course completion certificate as well .It was a great opportunity for
me to work in the school I studied for five years, with the teachers who taught me. This made me to know
my old teachers very closely. I was able to understand the feelings of the teachers from their point of view
and it was a revelation for me. I now have an enormous respect to the profession. My experience with the
kids taught me to cherish every moment I live with whatever things or people I have got.

This one month of my training helped me gain some confidence in teaching, which I may use as a profession
in future; it also helped me to improve my communication skills. Moreover this training gave the best time
of my life till now.
