TT: Discuss what media means


ST: give words connected to the word media
TT: Notes them down on the board
Introduce list of vocabulary items connected to media such as column, blog, broadcast editorial

TT Have a discussion on ___What images spring to mind when you hear the word media?

Strategy:
TT: Introduce conjunctions

Introduces conjunctions that come in pairs that are


either. or, neither .. nor, no sooner than ,not only.but, asas
And elicits from students the function of these conjunctions
.ST: In pairs will be given sentences and asked to insert the correct conjunction.
ST: will join pair of sentences using suitable conjunctions.
TT will read out a passage and ask students to tick the correct options in the paragraph.
Assessment: Sentences contributed by students on the given connectors

Phrases to introduce points and time fixer phrases

Period - 3

Strategy:
TT: elicit from students how we introduce points chronologically using a formal register.
ST: give certain phrases that they use to list items or sequence ideas such as firstly ,secondly
,thirdly, the most important,
TT introduces the need to the students that it is good style to often limit the ideas, opinion or
suggestions to a maximum of three.
TT make a list of these phrases
ST: note down in their books
ST: frame sentences using these words and phrases

Strategy:

TT: elicit from students when and how do we write about time ,example these days

ST: give certain phrases that they use to denote time such as once upon a time,ten years ago,
many centuries ago, every day
TT introduce the need to the students that it is good style to often begin the introduction with a
time fixer phrase
TT make a list of these phrases
ST: note down in their books
Assessment: use these time fixer phrases and phrases to introduce points in sentences of their
own

Strategy:
TT : discuss with the students the need to summarize a passage
Elicit from students instances when they need to summarize for instance, a movie, a
conversation, plot of a novel, passage.
Ask students to read an article in their language and give the class the gist of what the passage or
movie is about.
Students realize that they need to organize and sort the information they have and collate only the
relevant information needed.
TT show a PPT on summary writing
ST: note down in their notebooks certain strategies needed to write a summary

Strategy:
TT: Discuss core and extended summary question and the difference between the two
TT: give strategies on how to approach summary writing

Read the question carefully


Look at the pictures, if any, for cues
Underline the key words in the question
Code the key words
Skim read the passage
Write a heading for each key word
Rewrite the points in your own words
Write down what you understand of the question
Group together similar points
Compare the collated points and try to connect similar ideas using connectors
And then write your summary
Work through an example of a summary
ST: Read through the passage hitting the right buttons
TT: discuss the question and follow the strategies given
ST; skim read paragraph by paragraph and underline relevant points and mark it at the side of the
text.
TT: remember not every paragraph will contain relevant points.
ST: will try to paraphrase or rewrite the points in their own words and regroup similar points
And write the summary.
Assessment: individual feedback given to students

Strategy: Discuss the different elements of a novel that is setting,


characters ,plot, problem and resolution
St: read the chapters 4 5 and 6 of the novel and infer the meaning of
difficult words. They focus on the adverbs used in the chapters.
Shoulder to shoulder reading.
Silent reading and loud reading done.
Assessment: oral assessment done through question and answers
