Insulation cant eliminate energy loss entirely but it can reduce it dramatically. In the table below each column represents
a different insulation thickness and the cells in that column show the heat ow (energy loss) in W/m when that insulation
thickness has been applied. As the thickness increases the energy loss is reduced but the most dramatic reductions
occur when the rst few mm of insulation are applied.

Surface temperatures: C
The surface temperature of insulation is different from the surface temperature of the pipe to which they are applied. As
the thickness of insulation is increased the surface temperature will become closer to the ambient temperature. In the
table below each column represents a different insulation thickness and the cells in that column show the surface
temperature when that insulation thickness has been applied.

Calculated -Value: W/mK

The thermal conductivity (-value) of insulation is temperature dependent and will change as the temperature changes. In
the table below each column represents a different insulation thickness and the cells in that column show the calculated
thermal conductivity when that insulation thickness has been applied (given the exact calculated temperature of the
insulation).

All thermal insulation calculations are made in accordance with EN ISO 12241 and other industry standard methods where applicable. These standardised
methods may not take into account all variables and are highly reliant on the quality of the variables entered. As such results should be considered indicative
only and Kaimann cannot be held liable for the use of recommendations given by this program alone.
