Overview
2.1
Feature Introduction
A/Ater Interface over Satellite means that voice at A/Ater interface is transmitted via
satellite communication.
3(7)
2.2
Technical Description
A/Ater interface over satellite is used for establishing a communication link between a
remote BSC/TRAU and the CN when the microwave transmission is unable to solve the
link problem. This feature can be used to solve the link problem for remote BTSs located
at an island or remote area, which not only accelerate the network construction but also
reduce the construction cost.
When there is no transmission condition between BSC and MSC (e.g. hard to transmit
through microwave and optical fiber, such in an island), satellite can be used to transmit
voice at A/Ater interface between BSC and MSC. This is an extra transmission way.
Compared with E1 and IP transmission, A/Ater interface voice transmission over satellite
has longer time delay.

Engineering Guide
6.1
Application Scenario
If E1, IP and microwave transmission can not solve the link problem between CN or
external TC devices and remote BSS, this feature is adopted. This feature also supports
putting BSC remote to recover the link in island or remote areas, which speeds up
network construction and reducing investment.
6.2
Configuration Description
Link error correction method provides two options as follows:
1. Basic method: with the non-compulsory, confirmation/denial acknowledgment and
re-send error-correcting methods, it guarantees messages are transmitted in the
signaling links sequentially and non-repeatedly in normal conditions, and controls
resending to implement error correction when errors are detected.
2. PCR error calibration method: it uses the non-compulsory, positive/negative
acknowledgment and cyclic retransmission error correction methods. When there is no
new message signal unit or link status signal unit to be sent, the message signal units
that are saved in the resending buffer without acknowledgement will be automatically
re-sent, i.e. PCR. If there are any new signal units, the PCR pauses and the new signal
units are sent on priority.
Generally, when the transmission delay on the line is less than 15 ms, the basic error
calibration method is recommended; if above 15ms, use preventive cyclic resending
(PCR) method.

6.3
Network Impacts
This feature has longer time delay than E1 or IP transmission. Satellite position,
geography position and altitude height have to be considered. Satellite communication
transmission often adopts synchronization satellite. GEO transmission time delay is
about 250 - 280ms.Due to the longer time delay, MOS of voice service is affected to be
less than that in normal transmission way.
