SLOPE ANALYSIS

Stability Analysis for Cut Slope at Ramp

The stability of open soil excavations was studied using the computer software commercial package
SLIDE 6.0 from Rock Science. The assessment of the factor of safety is carried out using a circular
and non-circular failure limit equilibrium method as described in BS6349. The results are presented as
the minimum factor of safety derived from the Bishops and Morgenstern-Price method of analysis,
checking for both moment and force equilibrium.
For the analysis surcharge load of 24kN/m2 at a distance of 1.2m from slope edge was used for traffic
related loads. The stability analysis of a typical case was carried out and the results were presented
herewith.
Analysis was carried out for the possible failure options were listed below:1) Stability analysis of top overburden soil layer up to 3m depth with 1H: 1V slope.
2) Stability analysis of top overburden soil layer of 6m depth with 1.1H: 1V slope with surcharge
load and 1.2m berm at 3m depth below ground level.
As the slopes are open at all the stages without any support system, the variable depth of excavation
are studied in this report and result summary are presented in the table below.
