Reality of AIESEC
Description
Speak about how AIESEC Iasi wants to achieve Peace and fulfillment of human kind potential
through the change our projects create in the trainees and through their future actions. @Is projects
develop the trainees in order for them to become change agents and to develop further the world.
Ask the trainees if they think this is realistic.

Cultural shock
Description
Ask the trainees if they know what culture shock is.
Ask them to give examples of when they had culture shock in Romania but other countries also.
Culture shock is about understanding the difference between cultures.
Trainees should be encourage to explore and to ask why Romanians do things in one way and not
another. How they will treat this culture shock is up to them.
When speaking about culture shock, dont tell only negative things. Culture shock is not about
showing negative aspects, its about differences.
Possible topics (that should be treated with both plusses and minuses): dogs, gypsies, religion,
shaking hands and greetings, weather, food.

Personal reflection
Description
*Make a calm and friendly mood*
Trainers should think of a moment in their life where something changed them. This story should be to
create the mood for the reflection. SHOULD NOT BE SUPERFICIAL, should generate some
emotions. Should not be focused on a sad part, should be focused on CHANGE.
Give the trainees a piece of paper and tell them that whatever they do with that piece of paper will
remain secret, they will not have to show it to anyone if they dont want to do that. Tell the trainees
that they should think at the way they are right now and fill the paper with whatever they
want(drawings, words, stories) while they are guided by the following questions(if the trainers have a
laptop and projector, they can put the questions on slides and have some relaxation music):
Who are they? What hobbies do they have? What are their strengths? What are their weaknesses?
What motivates them? Where do I want to be after this internship? How will I make good use of the
time that I have here? Is this internship only a vacation? Who are the people that can help me in this
experience? Are they enough? Who will make sure that this experience will be memorable? Who will

make sure they will be better people after the internship?

If they want to share whatever they were thinking in the process they are invited to do
so.

Expectations
Description
Time
Ask them again: Who will make sure that this experience will be memorable? Who will make sure that 15
Responsible
they will be better people after the internship? (the desired answer is themselves)
The reason for those questions now is because they are in an unknown environment (another country,
Logistics
different people, different mentalities) that will not always meet their expectations if those
Flipchart, marker
expectations arent known.
Trainers will tell them that they want to hear some of their expectations (for each trainee, those
expectations should be passed to iGCDP department) to see if their expectations are reasonable, not
impossible to meet, and to make their experience one as good as possible as AIESEC Iasi will try to
meet those expectations. Write them on a flipchart

How to SMART
Description
Trainers will tell trainees that this experience is for them too. They came here to develop, to change,
for their selfish reasons (this isnt bad!) and if they dont track those objectives that they have, they
will probably not achieve them. Those objectives should be SMART as its easier for them to be

understood and tracked.

Trainers will describe the SMART objectives and will give examples of SMART
objectives
-S specific
-M mesurable
-A achieveble
-R realistic
-T timeframed

Lets SMART
Description
Based on the entire session, trainees should think at what are their objectives for the internship. Those
objectives will be again checked in LEAD 2 (in the middle of the internship) and LEAD 3 (at the end
of the internship) so the trainers should get a copy of each trainees objectives.
Tell trainees to think at themselves and how do they want to be personally and professionally at the
end of the internship. Give a piece of paper to the trainees or tell them to write the objectives on a note
book or somewhere to always have them on them.
After they are finish tell the trainees that they should present those objectives (or, at least one) to the
others. This is because it will create a commitment if more people know about their objective.
After the activity is over, wish them to be have a great time, embrace the challenges and ask for help
whenever they need something because if they do theres a chance someone will help them, while if
they dont, no one will help them.

Do not ask for feedback (the feedback will be asked by iGCDP

department), ask trainees if they need any help in the training area or their
objectives. if they do, tell this to the ATTC and iGCDP VP
After this is finished, make sure the trainees took all their materials (paper they
used in the reflection part and with writing the objectives) and trainers have the
expectations and also a copy of the objectives.
