A reheat steam power plant operates between 0.022 GPa at v = 1.111 x 10-2 m3/kg
and 400kPa. Determine the cycle efficiency, specific steam consumption and draw
the T-s diagram for each case below:
a)
The steam is reheated to 1.5MPa and 300C and the value of compressor is
omitted;
b)
The steam exhausted from the first turbine is dry saturated, value of
compressor is negligible and the isentropic efficiency of high pressure and
low pressure turbine is 0.9 and 0.85 respectively;
c)
The steam exhausted from the first turbine is dry saturated,, isentropic
efficiency of compressor, high pressure and low pressure turbine is 0.95, 0.9
and 0.85 respectively.

A Rankine power plant has been developed using the reheat cycle. The cycle is
operating between 5MPa and 5kPa before reheated at 1.5bar. The value of entropy
after the second turbine is 8.435 kJ/kg.K and the steam is at dry saturated when it
leaves the first turbine. Determine:

Q9)

An ideal reheat rankine cycle operates with steam as the working fluid. Steam enters
the high pressure turbine at 40bar, 450C. The steam is reheated to 450C at 15bar
before entering the low pressure turbine and is condensed in a condenser at 0.4bar.
Determine the cycle efficiency, work ratio and specific steam consumption if the
value of pump is omitted.

Q10) In an ideal reheat Rankine cycle, steam at 60bar, 400C is supplied from a high
pressure boiler to a high pressure steam turbine. After it is expanded in the turbine to
10 bar, the steam is reheated under constant pressure to 400C. The steam is then
expanded in the low pressure turbine to 0.05bar. Assuming isentropic expansion and
isentropic compression in the turbine and in the feed pumps respectively, determine
per kg of steam:
a)
The work done by the high pressure and the low pressure turbines respectively.
b)
Heat required during the reheating process.
c)
The compression work done on the feed pump.
d)
The thermal efficiency of the cycle. Determine also the specific steam consumption
per kW h.
Q11) A rankine power plant had been developed using the reheat cycle. Steam at the
entrance of the turbine is at 4MPa and 673K, whereas the pressure of the condenser
is 0.0045MPa. Assume that the steam is dry saturated when it leaves the high
pressure turbine, it is being reheated to the initial temperature. As an analysis, the
feed water pump shall be omitted. Determine:
a.
Nett work done for every kg
b.
Heat supplied for every kg
c.
Thermal efficiency
d.
Specific steam consumption
Q12) A steam power plant operates at a temperature of 400C and a boiler pressure of
40bar. Steam from high-pressure turbine exhaust pressure of 4bar is reheated until it
reaches a temperature of 400C. it is then expanded in the low pressure turbine and
go into the condenser with the pressure of 0.045bar. Assuming the work done on the
pump is negligible and working on a Rankine cycle system with high-pressure
turbine efficiency of 0.86 and low pressure turbines efficiency of 0.82.
